Any Diabetics here use lizard spit? (Byetta)

This is not a joke.

My doctor asked me today if I would be interested in changing my medication and start taking Byetta (lizard spit)

Byetta is derived from a chemical found in the saliva of the Gila monster, a venomous lizard. The drug is intended to be taken by injection before breakfast and dinner.

The medication works by stimulating insulin secretion in response to high blood sugars. Byetta also inhibits glucagon, a hormone that helps increase blood sugars.

Since I'm going on vacation I declined the change in meds but told the doc I would think about it and let him know in a few months.

Been on it for about 1.5 years, works great. You  have to eat 30 grams of carbs. within 1 hour of taking your shot. One of the side benefits of Byetta is you do not over eat & you lose weight. If you over eat it makes you feel stuffed & miserable, like you ate a whole Thanksgiving dinner. You soon learn not to over eat. All though I haven't really lost any (just more often & not enough exercise) still around the same weight that I was when I started on it. It may not be for everyone, my buddy at work tried it, made him sick, so talked to your doctor when you get back & get all the info.

P.S.  class two.

I have been on Metformin and Actos (pioglitazone) for about 4 years without any major problems or side affects.
Doc thinks Byetta may allow me to reduce the amount of Metformin I take today.

I just don't know if I'm comfortable taking shots twice a day.

69rtse4spd - Is it a pen with #qty of shots per pen?  How many do you go through in a month?
