While driving the Charger.....

I've noticed that the looks you get from people range from......

Absolute shock, total amazement, completey spazing or the one I like best, the old "what the hell is your f*cking problem!..... :smilielol:

During or short drives yesterday, we experienced all three

It's still hard to believe that it is actually running and driving finally  :o

I would say I get "nice car  :2thumbs: " looks.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

"what the hell is your f*cking problem!"
why would they think you have a problem?

if they drive a prius, more fuel for you!

If they do drive a Prius, pull up beside them, pop it in neutral & clean the plugs out. That should really get a shocked look out of them. :smilielol:.

reminds me of a license plate I saw on a corvette a few months ago here in California. It was UNHYBRID. haha.

I worry about the idiots trying to give you thumbs up or worse yet taking pictures while driving and not paying attention to the road.

I get mostly positive responses. Driving a restored classic is sorta like running down the street NAKED with your hair on fire....You ARE going to get noticed.
I get all sorts of comments too:
Wow.. Nice car... I used to have one just like it, but mine was blue, and it had 4 doors.
Hey...My brother had one like this... 440 Six Pack.  ( Were ALL 440 cars Six Pack models?)
Whats the gas mileage?
How much horsepower?
How big is the motor? (493) Whats that in LITERS?

I particularly enjoyed the toothless bicycle drunk who 'had a 69 R/T' and the bum who asked for spare change.

I gassed up behind a new Mustang Cobra, the guy just stared at the Charger until he left, easing out slowly.  :shruggy:

i must say i am surprised that people in the U.S.A  dont reconize a charger, as driving mine here in country australia, when i pull up at the servo  i get the
" my ol man had one of them" ,, australia never had the dodge charger imported
"nice chev"
"what is that"
"nice ride"
"were the fuck are the headlights", which i reply, these cars were not designed to be driven at night so no need for headlights,,
and some at show know exactlly what it is,,

Ya, we got one of those that comes to all the shows...nobody spends much time on it. Pretty, but ho-hum.

Now, the Bentley Continental we just did a headliner in is a car worthy of attention.

totally agree.  I get all those comments.  You should see people when both my wife and i are cruising both cars.  Everyone points and swerves and gives thumbs up, and yells stuff, geeze

When i drove the Coronet everyday, i got all sorts of comments, especially when it was raining.  "Why do you drive it in the rain?  You Crazy?"  Hey, they drove it in the rain 40 yrs ago, its just water, you wash your car dont you?

"What is the engine size"?  440, "umm dont know what that means"   Ummm 7.2 Liters, "holy @$#@, thats huge"

"Whats the gas mile"age"  Dont know, dont care, i drive it for the smiles per gallon.  I got into a big argument with a Prius driver at a gas station over this one.

"Hmm whats the horsepower"?    HMM not sure, its just a stock 440 with 850, Headers and 3 inch exahust, probably just 420.  "just 420 Holy Hell, UMMM whats 850 mean"?

My plate used to read "Real Cars Dont Wear Bowties"  It got ruined when i got rear ended. I pissed off a lot of Chevy drivers with that one  Now i have one that reads "Buy A Hybrid, I Need Your Gas"  I get pissed off looks from hybrid drivers when they pull up next to me at a light.  I just put it in Nuetral and piss them off some more.

"Thumbs up" is what I usually get from the public. The most common question is normally "What year is that?" A few weeks ago I passed (blew by) a new lime green R/T Challenger on the freeway (license "RAM HEIR" ) and got the thumbs up. I had an older couple walk across the street last week and tell me their son saw my '68 and wanted to buy it, and how much I wanted. I told them I would take $50,000. They didn't bat an eye (but in their defense their first language is not English); for a moment I had sellers remorse as I thought they were going to say yes. I had a gent pull up next to me (I was in the '73 SE) a few days ago and say that while he was stationed down under back in the early '70's the Aussies called these cars "Yank Tanks". I laughed at that one.  ;)

Just after I got the Charger put together, I stopped in at 7-11 for a Big Gulp. As I got out of the car, a 12-13 year old kid said...
" Is that a 440 Magnum?"
" Yeah."
" Fuck, yeah!"
I cracked up laughing!

I stopped at a gas station heading to Washington and people were asking me to wait so they could take pictures of the car. They went into the gas station to buy disposable cameras in order to take a pic.  It was almost 30 minutes before I could leave.

Of course I can't tell you how may Harley riders have offered to trade me thier bike for the Charger straight across.

I was parked at the burger joint right next to a old guy with a new red corvette and everyone there was all over the 69. He just took his food and left. :icon_smile_big:

and that's the way it should be! I took mine to shows and it wasnt looking good at all and I got more people looking at it then the nicer cars...of course thier were no other MOPARS there..

I have had positive responses from people of all ages. I did once have an old lady tell me that I had a nice Dodge. THAT was impressive.

sixty8charger

the one comment I can't stand (no offense)...  when i am in the driveway wrenching away someone always says, "you gonna paint it orange and put an 01 on it".

You know I am in NC, but some of these people, thats all they know over here...

I tell some of them, "no, I am going the Bullitt route" and they look at me confused.

Road Dog

I was out on my usual weekend cruise (me, my son and the dodge) on the back roads when I go past a sheriff car going the opposite direction. I noticed he eyeballed me as went by. I told myself he is gonna turn around for sure and I should probably do a quick turn and meet him again going the other direction. I didn't feel like mess'n with him. I checked my mirror just before I entered a curve and sure enough I saw white car in a distance. My road came to a "T" Stop and I turned right with the Sheriff right behind me. I'm bouncing around between 45 and 50 in a 45 zone all the while contemplating the accuracy of my speedo. After about 4 miles or so we come to another light that enters to I-70. I'm going right and he comes up on my driver's side and yells over " Nice car, you don't see many of those around here". I thanked him and told him I was out burning gas. As I entered onto 70 I let him hear the exhaust a little bit. ;D

Went to the Golden CO super cruise this past Sat. it was getting dark, and time to leave. This older gentleman comes up and says, "Is this your car?"...yes..."Its the nicest car here!, its perfect, I can't find anything wrong with it." I said you should see it in the daytime, to which he says.."Oh I saw it, hell, I had to walk 5 blocks to get here."

I also took it to FedEx once. Driving around a corner I catch this couple just walking out. He sticks his arm out in a protective manner across her and says, "Oh my God"   :coolgleamA:
