I just installed a 440 engine from a 77 New Yorker in my  68 Charger and this piece was on the back of the block where the ground strap bolts to the eng. One wire goes to the choke, I think. Can someone tell me what this is? Do I need it?

I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

that is the resistor assembly for the stock choke thermostat in the stock intake manifold..

It has 12v going to it when key is on...after a few minutes of heating up the OE choke assembly, the resistor kicks in and supplies a lesser voltage to keep the choke open and from burning out if there is full battery voltage

You don't really need it, but you can wire it in to your electric choke on your carb to protect it from 12+ voltage burn out as well

That's a choke control unit to regulate the power to the choke.

batt prong takes the power from ign run source which is blue wire ( traced I think ), but not the blue going to coil, the one feeding ballast, regulator and alt prong.
