White Charger -68 on eBay

The white Charger R/T -68 currently on eBay caught my interest. Does anyone know something about this car (and the seller)?

Nice car.  I like the white!  2 Things I noticed in a quick glance, the "original" spare and the oil pan is off of a C-body.  Neither is a big deal, but would make me want to question the seller a little more.

You figured out the oil pan by the 187 stamping, right? The correct stamping would be 402?

Another thing which I haven't figured out is that the fender tag states a5 and b4 on the top most row. Now, b4 is bucket seats. a5 is "center front seat w/folding armrest". Haven't figured out that combo. Is it valid? I've seen a6 with b4 which makes sense to me. But for a console car with bucket seats is a5 a valid option? To me it would indicate a column car with buddy seat and arm reset. But I might be totally wrong in this.

Good eye on the fender tag.  You are right, b4 is bucket seats, a5 is "buddy seat"/fold down arm rest/seat, a6 is console.  This car appears to have been a buddy seat/column shift that has been converted to floor shift/console. 

The pan should be a 409 and would not have the curved cut out in it.  That is a C-body thing.

It's also missing the square chrome thingies on the corners of the door panel pockets.

As long as we're pointing out what is wrong with the car, which I think is a nice example by the way, the dash medallian is missing (should be a bullseye?), and that the tic toc tac was added (not specified on the fender tag). The "a5" and "b4" stamping is interesting. My take is that it was a typo and that the "a5" was supposed to be "a6".

Again, nice car. Just a few blemishes. I'm amused that the owner states the fender tag decodes perfectly. No cigar.

In late 1968 I bought a brand new 1968 Charger from Chuck Swift Dodge in Sacramento, CA.  The car came from the factory with the gas cap that had the word FUEL stamped in the top.  In 1998 I bought my second 1968 Charger.  It also has the gas cap with FUEL stamped in it.  Those caps are not specific to the 1969 Charger,  they came on 68 Charges that were built late in the model year.

Interesting.   But per the fender tag on this car it was scheduled to be built December 4, 1967 (C04). It probably was changed at some time.

     So with the small discrepancies mentioned here what would be a fair offer on the price compared to the 53,500 they are asking?

The casting date on the intake manifold looks to be 6 23 67 so the timeline seems ok compared to the build date of the car.

I'll ask the seller about the column/console mismatch and try to get more info about the story of the car. But if it's converted, I think that's a minus (at least I see it as a minus). To determine a fair price, we have to know about the engine and trans I would say, if it's matching or not.

as far as i know all 68s had a sway bar   well  the R/Ts  certainly  ,  not sure about slant six cars  , think the only second generation  charger that could of been had with out a front sway bar was in 1970 ,   a turn pike option on XH cars i think , reduced rate springs , some thing like a 2.45 gears , just trying to remember stuff i have read, i could be getting mixed up ,(normaly happens  ) but that  White 68 R/T should have a sway bar definitely

still a very nice looking car -  i do think the $53K is a little high - obviously was not a complete resto as per the undercoating and what not...     My Charger was build in Aug 1967 and it had the older style gas cap, bulls eye dash madallion...          is pretty loaded though - rear speaker, rear defrost, A/C, power steering...      no cruise control though

Incorrect carb. Electric choke.... Looks like it a Eddy carb. Also is that a C-body valve cover on the drivers side? Note the wire looms. Who ever order this car new requested white wall tires over the standard red walls. Something that was somewhat rare for 68 R/Ts

Why persecute undercoating? I left mine on. Whatever didn't come off in media blasting stayed (which was most all of it)

I'm just saying that, personally, I am not going to pay $53K for a non-hemi RT with undercoating unless it is a survivor.
