AM Radio question on thumb wheels

Hi guys,

My AM is still working (including the preset mechanics, pretty darn clever design), but the tune thumb wheel does not have enough "grip" on its axle (red, on both pics) to move the tune-slide (yellowish on the first pic). It slips at the red markup on pic 2 (!). On pic 1 all mechanics work fine.

I suspect that either
- the slipping on pic 2 is not as designed. That would result in the thumbwheel does stop at high and low end. I could fix the problem with a little bit of superglue.
or
- the slipping is as designed but overall smooth-running of the mechanics is impaired. This would result in thumbwheel can still be moved even though high/low end is reached. To fix, I'd need to do more work on the smooth-running of the tune mechanics.

Therefore, I'd like to know how your AMs are operating at the end of the tune area. Can you still move the thumbwheel (e.g. slipping is a feature) or is the thumbwheel stopped at the end (e.g. slipping is a bug)?

THANKS A LOT!!

The freq indicator in my AM radio is stuck at the high end and won't come back. Same issue as yours but the radio works fine.

You are also still able to turn the tune thumb wheel and nothing happens? Maybe I need to take a look with some better glasses  :icon_smile_big: to find a tiny screw as mentioned above...
But only after Sunday. Big cruise and meet...  :drool5: :drool5:

I just checked mine -  it continues to turn even at the high and low scales...   so it is supposed to slide on that shaft...      :2thumbs:

Its like a little clutch with a brass colored pressure plate .And could have sworn when I fixed mine.I increased tension to fix selector and indicator needle not moving :Twocents:

Thanks to all trying their thumbwheel.

Accordingly, the slipping at the end (thumbwheel to be turned with more force) is the desired behaviour.

In respect of the pics above, my radio is actually not slipping at the brass clutch (upper pic, marked red; this is needed for the preset-mechanics), but at the lower picture, directly at the thumbwheel itself.

Now, if anyone has, by any chance, his AM radio open?

Sorry for being fussy...

I need to know if the thumbwheel, when at the end past 5 or 16 is slipping at the big brass-like clutch (pic 1 from top) or at the bevel pinion (pic 2 from front).

THx.

When the adjustments are topped out - the brass clutch looking deal slips on the shaft it is riding on...        :2thumbs:
