Although I don't know the VIN, it shouldn't be too hard to trace down; red interior with manual trans, brakes & steering (although I converted it to power steering). Non matching engine number & I can't remember about the transmission number.

Scott Spirakes in Chicago has an R4, red interior with a stick.   Can't be many with that combination.   Was yours R4 or V2?

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

When would you have owned it?

the paddock cover car has been in this area for a very long time. Bruce and Christine Carmichael have owned the car for many years. (I last worked with Chris about four years ago, but cannot imagine they would have sold it since then). Prior to their ownership, the car sat next to a small barn west of town for as long as I can remember (back into the 1980's). When Dad asked about buying the car back then, it was not for sale. No idea what circumstances changed, for the Carmichaels to be able to obtain it.

I can't remember the exact year, but it was around 1990-92. I bought the car for about 13 grand & the engine was junk; It burned more oil than gas. Since it was .060 over & not the original block, I tossed it & got another. A couple years later, prices started to go up & I threw it in Hemings just for the heck of it & sold it for 22 grand to a guy in CT who drove to my house in MA in the middle of snowstorm to collect it.

The fenders had been replaced & I drilled the holes under the scoops. The car needed quarters, fenderwells & trunk floor extensions & at that time, aftermarket parts weren't available. So weighing the option of doing the car over or just cashing out, I chose the latter. At that time I thought I had hit the jackpot. What little did I know.  :brickwall:

I believe that the car was R4, but did they make a slightly deeper red also in 1969?

Aero426

R6 is the deeper blood red color.

Richard Cranium

I think that might have been it, but  almost 20 years later, I'm not 100% sure.

Your car was definitely not R6.   R6 is much darker.    Even with old photos playing tricks, you can't mistake it.

XS29LA47V21

Cool car, great old photos.  For what it is worth I think the photos indicate R4 also, note the engine compartment photo with some of the orange traits of R4 that flops at times to orange tones, especially at night, R6 is a true deeper red.

Actually it only set out west of town for about 2 years in our yard. Before that we were actually in the town of Fortville and it set in the yard there too. There was a total of 5 daytona's in the yard once we moved out west of Fortville. I have been over to Bruce's a couple of times to see the car. They still have the car. I have tried several times to buy the car but to no avail. My Dad sold that car to them in 1986.

held1823

thanks. that better fits the car's background that i was trying to put into a few sentences, but mine didnt come out clear regarding the time frame. i remember the car being there not long after i graduated (1983), and was trying to convey it was not likely the same one that RC owned, unless he had it in the 1970's.

at the risk of derailing this thread, two daytonas were bought new by local owners, one being an f6 440/4speed (from goeke, noblesville) and the other a b5 440/auto (farthing sales/rushville). several other daytonas, and a few superbirds, have been here over the years. even with the presence of a chrysler plant in town, its amazing how many wing cars were found around this immediate area over the years. it was at that plant where i used to work with chris.

Don't know. I wouldn't know who the buyer was if he fell out of the sky & landed at my feet.

If your in either wingcar clubs .You might have done a introduction letter stating your cars story. When you first joined vin when and how you obtained it.And when you filled out a membership sheet they asked about your cars options vin colors etc .That particular club may have your info may have on file.I was able to refind a 67 Shelby I owned at 20+ years by contacting the Shelby registry.Just to see if it was still alive. And got this response

I'm Nancy Mathews and my husband David is the SAAC 67 Shelby Registrar. Rick Kopec forwarded your email to him for handling.
I've attached a list of the documents we have on file for your former Shelby #2653.  At this time the car is owned by a party in PA.
If you are interested in any of the documents please send a check payable to David Mathews or transfer payment to Paypal account
Thanks for your interest and support.
Sincerely
Nancy Mathews
