OK, crazy thing...I read this post, went out into my garage to feed my dog (his food is out there) and I hear movement in the newly empty bag of dog food beside his new bag.  I look in and what's there???!?!?!?!?  A MOUSE!  I decided not to light it on fire because of this thread and I released it from the bag (into my neighbors yard) hehe.
This yard saved my house. ^-^

But the mouse will be back to your place at snack time. I use a hav-a-heart type trap in my basement since the cats are either too friggen lazy, or just too stupid to get them. My daughter loves seeing them after we get one & it isn't a big deal to drive over to the park to get rid of them. Here's some info that tells you letting them go outside isn't far enough.

To use our unique trap, simply place a "saltine" cracker in the bait holder, set the trap, and check frequently (make sure you check daily or you may starve a trapped mouse). Once you catch a little squeeker, take your trap (and mouse) to a field or forest approximately five miles from your home and then open the bait door. The mouse then will chew through the saltine cracker in order to escape. It's fun to watch and much more compassionate than traditional death traps. We recommend that you wash out the trap before using it again, as mice have an excellent sense of smell. A small amount of cooking oil will keep the door hinges from rusting.

This is what we use in my folks barn as well as they have Barncats too. It works great. I put it in the farthest corner away from my car so that they leave it alone. I hate these things. They have cost me a ton of money in wiring and interior damage.

Seriously this is the best Trap for a area that you don't check every day, and it works more than once. ;)

I have 3 cats that love to eat mice but they are house cats, so I don't worry about any of them living long if they get in.  But we live on 5 acres of farmland with horse farms all around us so we have lots of field mice running around outside.  This was a teeny tiny field mouse that found himself trapped in the dog food bag.  When I released him he ran straight for the neighbors horse barn.  He's probably very happy there.  Except they have 5 outside cats.  hehe

That would be friggin' hilarious! :smilielol:

About 6 years ago, we moved to a rural area from the big city. We had 3 cats at the time, with plenty of undeveloped land around us...pretty much fields. Our cats went NUTS!
For at least a year, every morning I'd have to gather up somewhere between 4 & 9 or 10 half eaten mice from our front porch & throw them in the garbage...my wife thought it was disgusting.
For some reason they didn't like to eat the whole mouse...but that was fine by me, because we've never had a mouse in the house. ;D
