Got my 69 7 years ago already disassembled.  I put a new motor in it, got it running and replaced all the wiring.  I just got it back from the bodyshop and am in the process of reassembly.  I put new tail lights bulbs in it.  I have taillights now, but the brake lights do not work.  Any suggestions on where to look?  It has probably the original stop lamp switch in it, but I plugged a new one in while holding it and it didnt remedy the problem.  Don't know if it should have been grounded to the body or not, but no brake lights.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can jumper wire the brake switch pink and white together.By pass and check for brakelights light also check fuse if no power at pink wire
Check where tail socket snaps in tail light for good ground. Also check the rear harness connector and its connections behind emergency brake plastic interior panel. It also could be a bad turn signal switch .Be sure emegency flasher is not enaged and turn signal level is in the middle off position

I hate to sound totally stupid here but let me run a few ideas/questions by you.  Iam assuming the back lights are grounded by snapping them into the housing?  I noticed each light has a tab on top of the socket.Looks like something should plug in there, but don't know what .  Does that serve any purpose.  My headlights, tail lights and turn signals all work, just no brakes lights.   If the turn signals work , does that rule out the turn signal switch? Does the stop switch have to be grounded into the car for it to work ?  and lastly on a finished car are the console lights supposed to flash along with the hazards?  Surely not?

Just had this on mine - I didn't have the cluster grounded. Most of my problems went away when I did that. I discovered the need for that ground from one of Nacho's posts.

You could try a jumper wire on tail light housing to a good ground  .And see if that changes anything. Also the bulb sockets have locator tabs on them and index with tail light bulb opening .As you said car was repainted .Thats when you loose previous grounds. And need to reastablish new grounds through out the car or you get strange happenings.[ A example of strange happenings would be beep horn and wipers come in]  .I check rear taillight harness overall condition at left kick panel behind emergency brake.Disconnect rear harness plug and test every wire except blue gas gauge wire and black wire with 12 volt alternate power source. And check all functions of rear lighting bulb sockets and conditions. If everything lights your problem is not in the rear harness

The turn signal switch is the junction point for Emergency flasher Brake lights. It can affect your brake lights.

If you have the key off and turn signal lever down in a turning position. And step on the brakes .You wont get both brake lights
