383 oil pickup

so i have a 1971 charger with a 383, i think the oil pan has the numbers 472 or it could be 402 (i dont have the pan with me its at the shop so im going by memory) stamped on it.
anyways the oil pickup i bought a long time ago seems to be the wrong one

because even though i cant screw it in all the way, there just seems no way that i would be able to get the oil pan on without bending a curve in the pickup to force it to fit right.
i seem to be having a similar problem as this guy

maybe i need the same style pick up he has instead of the straight on i got?
