HELP!! Installing the rear part of a headliner in a 69 Charger

Hey guys, I attempted to install the headliner in my 69.  The front to the back is pefect. Nice and tight all the way across.  Once I get to the rear short bows in the c pillar is when things went wrong.  I pulled too much and the short bows do nothing.  My question is.. how do you get the sail panel area nice and tight?  What do you do with the cardboard pieces in the sail panel?  Are you suppose to glue material to those things and then clip them in?  I have no idea on how to finish this part?  Any help would be appreciated!!

hard to explain , but  the short headliner bows clip in with the bend facing forward   , like this   )   then you pull the bow down & it rotates inside the two end clips so if now faces down or in other words bowing inside to the roof !( that pulls the section tight !!  
then its a case of   trial & error to get it wrinke free , have a few dummy runs then  when happy  attach the headliner at the top serated edge , then i use double sided carpet tape at the bottom , i think its a better way  because you can stick & un stick to adjust , alternating between  un attaching top & bottom to get as best you can / or what ever it needs

also   look at a few pictures of unrestored original cars! they had wrinkles & creases in the very corner ,   just depends how much time you want to spend

That's great, thank you for that!  Very helpfull. I never thought of double sided tape!
My problem is that the 2 short bows are too forward.  I started the headliner at the front and not the rear, so now they don't have any pull.  they are in place, but don't actually pull the headliner towards the rear.  It's almot pointless to have them there.
My main question (dumb moments here) is how do you use the sail panel boards?  Are they just there so the headliner doesn't sink it?  Are you suppose to glue or attach the headliner somehow to the boards?  I tried checking the service manual and nothing in there?
Sorry guys, this is very frustrating. The rest of it is perfect.. I just can't seem to finish it off!

Like in the pic, the cardboard seems to be more of a sound/temp insulator. You can fasten the headliner to the rear deck with spray adhesive. It worked best to cut to fit +2", then glue only the 2" and also 2" out from that vertical lip. Pull tight and use a plastic card to crimp it tight into the corner.

edit: where he has the double-sided tape marked. You can see the old adhesive used along the bottom of the cardboard. Gluing it to the rear deck will last longer

Did your panel bd's come with the head liner ?
If so chargers don't need them use the bows short ones and the teeth around the rear window and was glued by the rear deck !

Im about to start installing my headline and this thread was a huge help but i  have a question about the clips in the front along the to near the windshield. How tdo you get them off and how do the fasten??

Darren -those are not easy to get off they are like aluminum double Ts !
To get them out pry it apart ,witch will close it on the inside ,sounds weird ,and pull it out slowly !
It reminds me I need to get some more gave mine to a friend when we put his head liner In !
Reminds me of outer snap ring pliers .

just finished working on my headliner...    what a PITA. It is doable - but I did mine AFTER i put the glass in...      I wont make the same mistake on my road runner.

no there are plain boards under the headliner    ,

think if you don't put the boards back in ! when you close the deck lid the trapped air might / could  ballon up the rear corners , although there is a lot of space in there

tan top mine did not have boards behind the head liner -in the pic above does not look like mine!
I (we) just put a head liner in a 68 RR and the liner came with boards and said it could be used in my charger he got his from year one so whatever -if i take it off i put it back on the way it comes off

I also took a picture of the sail panel anchor with my end o scope.  Looks lit a screw type shank nail?!?

If you don't install the cardboards , you can see light from an open trunk coming  through the headliner, DAMHIK!!

200.00 is cheap. I would take that deal. The local guy here wanted 600.00 to install mine. I am still holding out and running the white one that is in there. But would love to have my black one installed.

heres a lil.tip......dont even use the 2 small bows.....i fought those corners for hours and i finally took them out and it really made a nice smooth  sail panel area.....perfect!   if i knew how to post pics id share my results with you guys!

   These 2 sites may help in posting pictures. Just make sure they are the right size and have their own name. The easiest way I do it is to right click the picture, open with paint, crop it to what I want, resize it to fit the format and save. If you try a pic and it is too big, you will have to resize again, but will also have to rename it because it will say that file name has already been used. So if you right click on the pic, then "save as" it will open up and you can name it anything you want. Now you are ready to post it. Good luck.
