What would a fair amount to pay per mile for transporting a car on a open trailor?

Were it me, I'd negotiate a flat rate vs per mile. If I owned your gorgeous wing car it would transport in an enclosed trailer..........I wouldn't take any chances.  :Twocents:

buying a 71 Duster my dad lives about 6 hours from the guy and is willing to make the trip and I can go to his house to pick it up.  He would like to have the guy I am buying it from met him some place in the middle.  I would like to offer the guy a fair price for his trouble, if he would be willing to help my pop out.

Would $1 per mile be fair?

Lessee...

300 miles round-trip
x 12mpg = 25gal fuel
25gal x $4.00 = $100
$100 / 300mi = $0.33/mile
$0.33 x 150% wear tear and trouble = $0.50/mile

I'd consider that a bare minimum not to lose money on the sale. There's no profit in that. If he's only counting one-way miles, then $1.00/mile is a favor. Even at $1.00/mile both ways, he's saving you 6 hours of driving and $0.33/mile out of pocket.

Thanks!  My dad offered to go get it, thinking it was about 2.5 hours from him.  After he laid every thing out he found it was infact 6 hours away.  He won't back out since he already said he would do it, but I would like to get it down to at least what he thought it was.  I don't exspect the seeler to transport 3 hours out of the kindness of his heart.  So I would like to offer hime something for doing me a favor without insulting him.  If I offer him $200 to deliver 200 miles, I don't want him to be insulted.  Maybe I should just ask him what he would take to deliver it half way?

I guess you'll have to feel out the seller. Loading and unloading in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 10:30pm sucks...better talk to him about scheduling and distances, look at a map and see what may be best choices for waypoints. Usually cash isn't the sticking point in deals like this, it's time and effort. I'd say $1 a mile both ways, then figure out how far he's willing to come your way.
