Sealing the seam on a two speed wiper motor?

I got a rebuilt wiper motor from "insert auto parts store name here" and the thing had a real crappy seam seal job on it between the motor housing and the base. Of course the thing got spray bombed flat black over the crappy sealant and some rust so I'm in the process of peeling everything back off it to get it ready for paint.

Here's my question: do you think it's necessary to put sealer back around that seam before I paint it? I don't recall seeing many restored wiper motors having this sealant and I don't forsee much water working its way in there. Is it there to protect the motor from dust, water or what?

Also, what type of black should I use on the wiper motor when I paint it? Gloss or semi gloss? Are they basically the same shade as the horns?

tan top

i had that stuff on a rebuilt 2 speed  wiper motor !  think it was from A1 cardon , but was a few years ago & can't be sure  :scratchchin:
there is/was  nothing like or any signs of that type of sealer / glue  :-\  on my original motor (previously unrestored 63k car )

true it could be to stop damp / water getting in there !  , but i think its a form of security seal for warranty on the rebuilt part !  , seal broke , some one could of tampered , void warranty !!  :yesnod: :Twocents:

funny story also ,  put my car back togeather after the resto , fitted the original motor ,  just used a satin black  i think  ! rattle can !  :-\ :shruggy:  not really interested in correct color black !, have changed soo much !
tried wipers , car all put togeather !!  no work  :brickwall:  thought  hmmm motor jamed  :scratchchin: gave it a tap  with a hammer  :o it worked  momentarily  well for one reason or another , & never done any tests or checks (which h is unlike me ) ordered up a rebuilt one  :yesnod:
as i was fitting the rebuilt one thought  better clean the paint off the mounting studs  as that's where the motor gets the  ground from !!
that was the problem with the original motor , bad grounding because of  thick paint on studs
why i never thought that when fitting the original  :slap:

might put the original back on at some point !  as the grounding strap is in a different location & longer ! than the original

Are they basically the same shade as the horns?

Yes.

Whew! That's good because yesterday I painted it with the same paint I used on the horns.
