I bought my car in Ottawa in 1999 and brought it into the states.  There is import paperwork you have to fill out, but cars over 25 years old are exempt from DOT safety laws and EPA laws.  If they weren't you would have to get a letter from the manufacturer stating that it was build to US standards.  Also, I was told the import is treated differently if you drive it across the border versus tow it.  If you tow it, it is considered goods and is subject to different rules and import taxes.  If you drive it, it's just your car.  The best thing is to stop by a local customs office if you have one near by, or call one and ask questions.  Make sure you have all of your paperwork in order before you head up there also.  The last thing you want to do is buy it and not be able to bring it home.  You'll also need the signed/stamped import papers, as well as the signed over Canadian title to register/title her in the US.

One thing I can say is the Canadian DMV was light years ahead of NJ's DMV.  They were totally amazing to work with when we transferred the title and he signed the car over to me.  We were in and out in less than 20 minutes, and they gave me temporary Ontario plates so I could drive her.

thanks for the reply.i found 2 34 ply in ont.one is a driver the other one is complete but apart.the price is right for the 2 cars plus parts.i just don't know if it's worth the hassel.

It's worth the research at least.  Look into it with a local customs office, the parts car may be a pain.
