All metal filler question

Just got done cutting the lip off of my outer wheelhouse and lowering it to fit my new quarter (68 charger).  I'm in the process of grinding down the welds and checking for pinholes.  I have been treating the areas underneath the car with picklex and have used some all metal filler to make sure I haven't missed any small holes.  I have been painting zero rust over these areas as well.  My question is not sure how the heat from plug welding the outer to the quarter would affect any filler near those areas.  Would it cause a problem??  Thanks!

You should use good quality epoxy vs zero rust. If you don't have rust why are you using rust treatment over bare metal?

I was told zero rust could be applied to bare metal that has been etched, the picklex supposedly does this and have been happy with it so far.  It seems to be durable as it's a pain in the ass to remove it.  This is what Resto Rick over at Moparts uses and recommends.  Only using this stuff on the underside.  I think with all this and the lizard skin I shouldn't have an issue.  Anyway any info on the metal filler?

You should be using weld-through primer between panels before welding them together.
SEM 40783 COPPERWELD works well. And no you shouldn't use any type of filler next to welds as heat will just blister filler

Yep i use that too, I'll try that SEM stuff.  The stuff I use now creates a lot of splatter.

You only use it on the seams, not supposed to spray it on and then weld on top of it.

So for plug welding you are supposed to remove the primer from the areas to be welded?

I'm no expert but...

I doubt you'll be putting that much heat into the panel with plug welding. How far away is the All Metal from your holes?

Sorry, haven't been on here in awhile.  I'm probably looking at a couple inches away, I had to lower the lip of the outer.  I have a pic somewhere, I'll post it as soon ASAP.

You should be fine then, I usually have a blower in one hand and weld with other, cool off each weld right after with air blower to minimize warpage and keep the heat down

I use my spot blaster to clean the weld thru primer from the plug weld holes. That or you'll get the splatter. Works for me. LEON.

Thats a good idea, I tried using a pick and scrape the area.  It worked pretty good and didn't take too much extra time.  Nice clean welds
