Rome is 100% correct..Too many "I don't have time to even care what's getting done to my kids by the nanny I hired to watch 'em cause I am too busy using my 4 years of college degree"...
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

I certainly respect Rowe.  He hold a University degree, has been a Union member, worked in the arts and has fine-tuned the ability to dumb down his entertainment for the unwashed masses to enjoy.

I think you can contribute the lack in skilled labor to the cut back in school programs eliminating car, wood, metal shops and agriculture programs.
No one knows how to work with thier hands anymore.

Kids today are all told they are suppose to go to college and run a computer.

Most of the people that are learning skills today are doing so by going into the military or go into the family business if it has not gone under.

I think more companies need to become more involved with the public schools but with all of the legal risk and insurance that would be required to protect the kids I can understand why it doesn't happen.

Hard to believe his voice is still that high. If his balls ever drop he'll be out of a singing career.  :smilielol:

I remember listening to them back in the 70's and wore out a 2112 album, Still have it on CD.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I read what Mike Rowe said.  He's dead on right.  He doesn't really delve into why there is such shortage of good tradesmen.  Image is one.  So many parents discourage kids from this way of life that it's become "beneath" many.  On this site we know better, but for most of the world, it seems like being able to use your hands to make your living is somehow less than honorable.  The image is not helped by the current crop of saggy as pants/sneakers/sweats wearing tradesman I see.  Way back when, guys wore work clothes to go to work.  Not pajamas.  Work boots, uniform pants, shirt tucked in.  Money is another factor.  Unless you know or blow someone to get in a union, you don't make very much it seems.  I manage skilled workers only because there was a lot more money in it.  If I had my way, i'd still be out there.  I am, but  I gotta push paper for half my day.  I'd rather get my work orders and spend the entire day out there but the money just wasn't there.

What's the motivation for young guys to be skilled tradesman when at the end of the day, they might be able to get a decent car but still be living in mommy's basement.  No hope of buying any kind of house where I live on 40-50K a year and that's about max for skilled trades.

It makes me sad because I take great pride in what I do.  The only upside is that while I consider myself average skillswise, I am a huge stand out in my field.
