Hey gang..
Looking for personal experience on a company you've dealt with that does quality work on restoring/upgrading our OEM thumbwheel radios. I have two original am/fm radios I'd like to put in my Daytona and C500.

Thanks in advance

I had Mike Mancini at Inst. Specialties do mine, and I couldnt be happier. It sounds nice, the Ipod part works great, and it looks stock. Ive had experiance with other converted radios and this newer style unit that the used in mine sounds much better.

I've heard good things about both outfits, you probably can't go wrong either way.

S&M Electro Tech did my radio upgrade. I also purchased the dual cone speaker for the dash to replace the original one that was all rotted. The radio sounds OK with the small speaker but the fidelity of the AUX connector from my iPod and satellite receiver is better. The push buttons and tone control all work and nothing on the radio worked before. It took several weeks (I think about 2 months) for the upgrade to be completed and shipped back to me.

The AUX input is automatic. That means when the radio senses audio coming from the AUX input it will automatically switch to the AUX input. After a time of no music the it will switch back to the radio. I have issues with my iPod on soft passages or between songs it will switch back to radio mode. If you crank up the volume of the iPod too much to fix the problem it will overdrive the radio into distortion. Sometimes the switch happens when I plug in my satellite receiver but not too often since on XM radio they try to keep music or voice on all the time like a commercial FM or AM station - at least on the stations I listen to like Sixties on 6. It automatically switches back when the audio returns.

Don't think I would mod a original am/fm.
If it were me I would use a much more common am radio.

I agree. You can sell the am/fm for more each than one conversion will cost.

To each his own I guess. Personally I love the original look of the stock radio and the fact it plays FM and my iPod or satellite when I turn it on. I have my car and radio to enjoy not to worry about re-sell value.

There are people that will restore to originality or upgrade to FM/AUX functionality. Do whatever you will enjoy the most!
