Hi guys I need to know with the right suspension what is the towing capacity , will it haul a 26 f empty inclosed car trailer

A383Wing

well, I think yer pushing it....what is the weight of the trailer? What kind of hitch are you gonna use?

I would not tow it, but what do I know

1/2 a house maybe or possibly an ocean liner if you chopped it into low.

Seriously , whatever the stamped rating of the tow package is, probably 1600kg braked 1200kg unbraked

How much does your car weigh? There are many factors that may reduce towing capacity, but the maximum ever allowable (on a bumper hitch) is the weight of the tow vehicle.

Of course, I've roundly ignored that limit many times and survived, as many people do. For a passenger car, I'd recommend no more than 3/4 the weight of the tow vehicle if set up properly. I would only approach 100% vehicle weight if the setup is perfect and the trailer has functional brakes.

I'm gonna say no. A 26' enclosed trailer probably weighs in the 5,000 pound range - not to mention the poor aerodynamics. Your Charger doesn't have the brakes to slow it down at any decent speed. Perhaps if you add a brake controller? The at least the trailer brakes would help then. Your tires are rated for that load capacity either. Pretty much any truck (1/2 ton, not mini) can tow that much weight easily - and a LOT more safely.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I have a 20' enclosed trailer that weighs 4000#. I've towed it with my K3500 4-door dually and my K3500 longbed, and I'll tell you now that you can't safely tow anything that big and heavy behind a Charger. I wasn't entirely comfortable with it behind the longbed pickup, even with brakes and controller. Even empty, it's enough to push the 5000# truck around (bumper hitch) and with any load weight added, you're just asking for trouble. Consider too, that you won't be able to use your mirrors at all. This combination is a no-go.

The 1969 Dealer Data Book says:

Maximum loaded gross trailer weight is 4,000lbs.  Trailer-towing package is required for all trailers with a gross weight of 2,000 to 4,000 lbs.

Just below that quote it also says:

NOTE:  A frame-type, load-equalizing hitch is required if the tongue load is 200 pounds or more.  A frame hitch is satisfactory if the tongue load is less than 200 pounds, and the towing is not frequent.

I would not be comfortable driving a Charger with as much weight as you're talking about behind it.  Even with aftermarket springs, air shocks and aftermarket brakes, it would be a white knuckle ride with a 26' box trailer.  We'd eventually be watching a YouTube video of the wreckage site and lamenting the lack of wisdom exercised by the poor fool/driver.

Back in the 50's and 60's people towing big trailers with station wagons and big cars was not an uncommon site.  But, it was also a common sight to either see or read about horrendous wrecks by people pulling these big travel trailers.  Get at least a 3/4 ton truck. :Twocents: Bob

There will be no video ! That's why I ask a maybe stupid question rather then make a stupid mastake.I appreciate your help, and will find an alternative.I bet it could tow it in a straight line ( no turns or stops) quarter in say 16 flat :smilielol:
