I'm swapping out my org. 318 for a newer 360, but I am finding that the bolt on parts from the 318 are not quite right on the 360. does anyone have pictures of a completed 360 so I can see what side all of the bolt on parts are on.

im doing the same swap. it seems the oil pan and engine mounts are different. what other parts are you asing about?

nrt69

also, the 360 is external balance and the 318 is internal balance so you will need a different flex plate if running an automatic.

you will also need a torque converter and front harmonic balancer for a 360 as well....

318 is internally balanced, 360 uses balancer & weighted torque converter for engine balance.

and yes. oil pans will not interchange because of bigger main caps ......

If I remember, the motor mount mounting lugs that are part of the engine block are located in a slight different position between the 2 engines as well......

everything else should bolt up

accessories bolt up - balancer is different, torque converter is weighted, oil pan is different, and watch out for what I found out the hard way....      on early 68 cars the water pump inlet is on the opposite side as the newer engines.

yea..I fergot about the water pump inlet

My68Charger

I got the balancer, the flex plate parts already worked out as the balancer was with the new motor and the guy who built the motor made the flex plate fit the 68' 727 trans. but after diggin in to the trans that may have to change anyway. thats another problem for later on... what I need to see is how the alt and the power steering pump mount. The new water pump I got doesnt have the dog ears to hang anything off of it like it did on the 318. The 360 is done and built now I just need to hang all of the bolt on stuff.  :shruggy:

I made the mistake of doing this build back @sswords and started with the motor and not the body work. So I have this nice 360 but can put it in until I get the rest of the car done...  :slap: :brickwall: :brickwall:

how about the 318 lower pulley? i noticed that it is bigger/longer than my 360 pulley...but i want to use the 318 pulley to prevent from buying new belts...shouldnt be an issue right?

My68Charger

With the way the ballancer mounts I dont know if the 318 pully will work on the 360. I have the 360 lower but the 318 upper and that dont work. I need to get the 360 upper as well.
