Need your thoughts on which Headers to buy....

I have a 440 engine out of a 77 NewYorker. I'm putting it in my 68 Charger, orig. 383 AT w/floor shifter. Also has Power Steering & Power Brakes. Which Headers should I buy that will give me a direct fit without modifications? Or should I look for the stock exhaust manifolds? The ones I took off the engine are in pretty bad shape. I found a set at Summit, but don't know if the manifolds are all the same for the 440 block? I'm also looking at a set of Hooker Headers on Summit. I just want the easiest installation route.

I have heard good things about TTI's headers regarding fit.  I bought a set of Hooker SuperComp 2"x3.5" for my 440 and they were very tough to fit, and Hooker was of no help telling me "They fit, you're stupid.".  I wonder if I got the 1.75"x3" Hooker SC's if it would have been an easier fit.

I have used Hooker comps twice. Seams like there always is some fitment work. Worked fine once installed. The headers that fit both the BB and the RB engines on both b body and e body cars will  always be a compromise somewhere. TTI has more choices. Headman makes a shorty header that looks like it would fit easier. Schumaker makes a stepped tube try -Y header that guys that I have talked to about them said they fit well.

I would recomend aluminum header to head gaskets. If your starter is old ,replace it while installing the headers, maybe a mini starter.

If it was easy ,it wouldn't be Mopar.   :Twocents:

Definitely a big agree on the starter if you still have your stock one.  I also used aluminum gaskets.   :2thumbs:

I decided on the Hooker comp headers 1.75 x3". It seems that they've made some changes, so hopefully it will fit right in with my PS gear box. The TTIs were just too expensive. Thanks for the replies!  And I will definitely get the mini starter!
Do the aluminum gaskets come with the headers? It states that they come with bolts and gaskets. I read somewhere that Ultra Copper Silicone works well to seal the gaskets. Is that used with the gasket or instead of it?
Thanks again!

Do yourself a big favour and get what Ron had suggested to me for a no hassle header gasket. Go for the aluminum set from "Percy's" and you won't be disapointed  :2thumbs:

The headers come with the composite style that seam to leak eventually. Hang them on a nail in the garage and buy the aluminum ones. Percys are good.

Never tried the silicone on headers. Most silicone is only good to about 400*

I'm pretty sure I used these, and after reading it says they are steel core laminates.

I just installed my TTI's with the Remflex gaskets. No problems so far, but it has only been a few weeks.  They look like a quality product and I expect them to hold up well.
As to which headers to use, I am very happy with the fit-up, finish, and accessability to the plugs I now have. I vote TTI's. :2thumbs:  I also have the low deck block in the Charger and TTI builds them specifically for that combo. It is amazing how much that 3/4" difference in road clearance makes.
