oh yeah definately. As well when I do it I will probably be pulling the radio, heater box and wiper motor out to have it all rebuilt.

I probably wont be startig this until after summer is over so I have time to take care of the other stuff and then do it all at once.

I hear you on the wire melting issue. Mine are all working but I've been chasing issue on it time after time again.

Its time to change that.

Man, I certainly wish I had a money tree out back. I would water the heck out of it as I am bleeding money right now for sure!  Glad you really like the looks of the new dash harness as I will replace ALL of my wiring, front to back, on the Charger soon. Mine is already apart so it will be relatively easy to do , just expensive.

Great looking dash harness.

Ryan

Yep those new harnesses are great! I replaced all my harnesses and man what a difference it makes.

I did it a couple years ago. It was worth every penny.

I wanted to do that this winter. I need to do the headliner and redo the vinyl top also so if im pulling the dash for the harness the others are all easier with the glass removed....never got around to it. I'll put it on my to-do list for next year I guess.

Looks cool got a price on that.

I replaced ALL the harnesses in my 70 Charger with M&H from Year One, my dash harness was $550 if I recall, all the other assorted harnesses, rear harness, light forward harness, 440/6 engine harness, steering columm, etc, etc, etc and all the assorted small add on/aux. harnesses ran about another $1000,....but when it was all done, everything woked, even the annoying key buzzer, no issuses on start up with the engine harness either

Same with me.  I replaced my engine, front light and tranny harness last summer when she got back from the body shop and this year as a part of my interior resto I am replacing my dash harness, rear light harness, wiper motor harness and console harness (kick panel to console lamp socket harness).  The only original harnesses I have are the console lamp pigtail/harness, the harness for the dome light, the heater switch harness.  I also am adding the A01 light package option to my car, so those are all old/used as no one makes them that I'm aware of, but in good shape.  I got my dash and rear light harnesses from Year One, it's reasonable if you have a 20% or 30% off code.  All other harnesses I get from Bill Evans.  I would have gotten the dash and rear light harnesses from him if he made them, but Year One's the only shop in town for those.  Bill's harnesses are great.

So....my car is totally apart now, and going back together this summer.  It's tempting to re-use the original wiring in some parst of the car......I mean it still looks really good.

If this a dumb move?  In parts of the car that don't get involved with alot of heat, etc.....like the trunk, can you get re-using the original stuff and be OK?

Not that big of a deal to get it all new, but hey, why replace it all when some of the old stuff is still good?

:iagree:

Ive used Bill extensively for all of my other harness needs. Best price and quality in town.  :2thumbs:

Wish I could have gotten my dash harness from him but like you said. Year one has a corner on the market for that particular one.

I personally look at is as a weak link. Mopars wiring has always been a very poorly designed area of the car and they aint getting any younger. I aint risking my investement to a spark and fire taking all my hard work up in flames.

I spose we all have to look at our particular situation and finacial situation and make a decision from there.  :shruggy:

When I got my dash harness out and looked it over closely, damn am I happy/lucky my car didn't burn to the ground.  What a rats nest and butcher job it was.  And it was all hidden out of sight.  I feel the same way Lizard, not risking my investment or my baby.  For the time and money I've spent on her, all new harnesses is a small percentage of the restoration and worth every penny.  Especially with a 20-30% coupon at Year One!   :coolgleamA:

Heavy,
I have some original wiring on my car still, not a lot, but some and it's in good shape.  But it is in no way comparable to the freshness, soft and flexible new wires with tight wraps and solid construction and all clean contacts.  Even if you have no cuts or crappy splices, 40 year old wires still have oxidized connectors and dried up hardened insulation that will crack.  For me, it wasn't an option but to replace everything I could.
