How do I know what main bearings should use my engine ? big or small flange ?

I don't have the car with me to check the casting on block... which casting numbers I have to be alert to know If I have to use one or the other ?

Says you should be able to determine it by the year of the block, but the only way your going to know for sure it to visually inspect.

Since the difference in the thrust bearing counterbore is just a machining operation I doubt if casting numbers will reflect it.
