69 Charger Cruise control...How rare?

Just wondering how rare the cruise option is on a '69 Charger. I believe its N88 on the fender tag. Is it rare? Or is it just unusual? My car is a '69 SE 383 auto F8 green, dark green int and white vinyle top. Pretty standard stuff but I do have cruise so that's why I was wondering.

Its not a very common option from what I have seen on cars over the years. I can honestly only think of about 3 dozen cars that I've seen it on over the years.

terrible one

Cool! That's definitely one of the rarer options. I would like to see some pictures :2thumbs:

A 1969 Charger with the cruise control option would definitely be a fairly rare car. It, most likely has a good number of options to it as a loaded Charger SE would have. I do not believe I have ever seen one but may have just not noticed the option.

Pics would be lovely of it, both the tag and the setup please.

Rare on cars from that era of all stripes.

I'll get some pics soon. I got the car from a friend of mine who was going to turn it into a general lee. I'm new to this site and have posted a couple times but never introduced myself. I'm 21 and going to college for auto mechanics. I've always been into old cars and at 14 bought a '59 Chevy wagon. About a year later I found a '65 skylark conv and bought it. I'm from a chevy family and I've always enjoyed searching through old junkyards and swapmeets. Basically anything classic car related I was into. One day, about a year ago, I randomly got linked to a youtube vid of a 1968 Coronet tearing a country road apart. I thought to myself what a badass car! So that day I searched Coronet on my local craigslist and BAM! I see an add for a '68 Coronet 500 for $500! I ended up buying it cause "it looked like a charger". My dad thought I was crazy for buying a mopar and questioned my chevy pride. I didn't give it a second thought I never seen a chevy that looked like this! This started my love for mopars and I proceeded to sell my chevy wagon, skylark, and all my chevy/GM parts stash to save up for a Charger. As luck would have it one of my buddies had a '69 Charger rotting in his garage. I ended up buying it and now it's Charger Charger Charger that's all I can think of. I already want another.

I have the column and turn signal/ cruise lever on it from my (smashed by a tree) 69.........

Should I dig it out and post a picture?

Welcome aboard young fella and I am proud of you finding and getting a 1969 Charger as your first Charger. Warning to you .... they can be addictive and expensive to care for and fix up. A few others here as young as you and I will wait for them to chime in.

From GG's Options and Accessories Report from '93,  it shows 2.2% (1431) of XP V8 Chargers having N88 (no 6 cyl cars had it), 3.8% (713) XS cars had it. No mention of 500s or Daytonas.

I used to have a '69 SE that had cruise. Didn't work, but had the stalk. I was always curious how well those things worked.

Out of the over 2300 '69's I have registered I only have 59 that I have verified the N88 option....so yes I'd say fairly rare.

There are a few pics in the gallery from the Registry site with CC.....

The servo on the fenderwell is vacuum operated....it connected to a t-fitting off the power brake booster.

It ran a separate cable to the carb to control the throttle as well as a second speedo cable to control the speed when the button on the stalk was "set"

I think the cruise control in a 69 C-body is the same as used in the B-body.

Its weird that all the cars that I have seen that have had the cruise control option also have had power disc brakes, SE package, and A/C.  Wonder if one of them was a requirement to have the cruise control. :scratchchin:

I thought that I had heard that cruise control was a dealer installed option. Not that it matters, rare is rare, but I thought it was one of those things they didn't do on the assembly line.   :shruggy:

Im pretty sure it was a factory optional item as there are dimples in the top of the inner fender where the holes would be for the screws if it were to get it.  If it was a dealer installed item, I would think that the holes would not be dimpled like that.

of the 143 68-70 chargers i've had, only 2 had cruise control. one was in a running car but didn't work, and one was in a parts car so i've never experienced working cruise in a 68-70. but based on the numbers someone posted earlier, i'm right in line with the 2-3% figure. really rare and cool option. about as rare as finding power windows on a 69.

Yep, factory.  Didn't the marketing gurus at Dodge actually call it "Autopilot," too?

I guess mine is one of the rare ones... :coolgleamA:  :D

If I remember correctly, it was only available on Auto trans cars.  Us with 4 speeds got screwed!

The (smashed) one that the column came from was not an SE, 383 HP,  no AC, 11" power drums, PS, column shift, buddy seat and rear window de-fogger........

Mayhap there was no rhyme or reason other than the original buyer checked the box either on purpose or accident
