Its weird that all the cars that I have seen that have had the cruise control option also have had power disc brakes, SE package, and A/C.  Wonder if one of them was a requirement to have the cruise control. :scratchchin:

The required options/qualifiers for 1969 B-bodies and S/C N88 Cruise were as follows:

318 - only had to have automatic transmission
383-2/383-4/440-4 - had to have auto, B51 power brakes, and could not have the N96 carburetor fresh air package

Power disc's weren't technically required, but I think a lot of people chose them over "just" B51 power drums.

My 68 has factory cruise....well had it until the previous owner(s) removed the servo from the engine bay  :brickwall:

Hi...Tagging onto an old thread, but can anyone give measurements to the location of the holes for the cruise control screws on the inner fender?  I have one of those rarer 69 Chargers with Cruise control, but had to use inner fenders from another car due to rust and it doesn't appear to have the dimples after the body shop got done with it...Thanks!

resq302

I'm pretty sure there are dimples on the inner fender where it gets attached.

Thanks for the response...but the issue that I have is the body shop must have smoothed over the dimples as the only dimples are way back between the brake booster and the master cylinder..

all the pictures I see have it in front of the master cylinder...and on my car I have no dimples in that area...see attached...that is what happens when you have a custom body shop do a stock restoration...  :brickwall:

I did happen to see underneath that there were possibly 2 drilled holes going through the support bracket under the inner fender...could I be lucky enough that these are the original holes?  the location is close...  The bracket I believe is the original bracket, but I'm not sure... can anyone check theirs???

Thanks again for your response!

AFAIK  (per the red book) the '68 4-speeds could have the option 473 automatic Speed Control, a long as they had the Power Brakes (option 451). However, the Hemi could not have option 473 at all, no matter the transmission configuration. Another reason to like the 68's more than the '69's....  ;)

The '69's could have this option (N88) with power brakes (B51) and the TorqueFlite transmission.

The '70's could have this option (N88) only on 8-cyl cars, but not the 440 6-pak or the Hemi. So the 4-speed in '70 apparently was a go.  :scratchchin:

And would ya know, I have the set-up waiting for my project ('68 383 4-bbl 4-speed A/C 3.55) Charger.  :icon_smile_wink:

I'll try to remember to take a pic of this tomorrow on my charger for ya.

Just an FYI - the master cylinder and brake booster were painted as an assembly.  Disc brake master cylinders 68-70 were a cheap gloss black, probably a 70-80% gloss black to todays standards.

Here is a photo of of an original cruise control car. You can always approximate the location if the dimples are not there.

the holes thru the support brace make sense, measure their spacing & compare to your servo bracket

Hi resq302 thanks for the help

On the master cylinder,  I based my natural color on the book "Charger, Road Runner, & Super Bee Authentic Restoration Guide" written by Paul Herd

On page 95 it states in section Master Cylinders 1968-69... "The cylinder assembly itself should be painted cast-iron gray" to simulate the fresh-cast look, and "the cover should have cadmium finish with an unpainted bail." I chose to keep it raw steel and used RPM to protect it.

Is the book wrong?

I am far from an expert so I have to rely a lot on this site and I have been using this book for my colors as much as possible.  Unlike may of you experts I only have 1 69 charger that I have had for 30 years (parked for 25) and am doing my first ever restoration so I'm trying to get it right...within reason. I appreciate everyone's help

I'm still looking forward to the pics if you can get them...Thanks!

Thanks...that was my thought as well...just have to get in there and line things up...I'll let you know what i find out...

My '69 has CC but isn't currently installed, in fact I haven't even looked at the controller that was given to me at the time of sale. Another project! If you need a picture of where it mounts, I can take one for you assuming I have the correct fender.

Mine had it (it's on the tag) and I found a full '70 system (including lever) to replace it with since it got picked off mine at one point in its life.

Lots of inaccuracies in that book and the Bendix booster & disc master combo color is one of them.  As Brian stated painted black as an assy....also no gasket between the two either.... :Twocents:

there are numerous sources for info - the easiest to come by are Galen Govier's "Option & Accessory" reports - the '68 & '69 numbers posted are from these
the '70 numbers are from the '70 Charger registry site that I believe are tabulated from similar Chrysler's 1970 Charger AC30 "Option & Accessory Report"

Cleaned up/resprayed my cruise control and mounted it. It's not actually functioning at the moment, but it's better mounted than sitting on my workbench. A project for another day.....
