Well once again on the way to the cruise in last night the ignition gremlins got me. Was traveling up highway 9, cars drivin fine and ll of the sudden.....nothing. So I manage to get to the side lines. put my thinking cap on and go. I bet it's that damn ignition again. So I get me packaged up ignition by passs wire out, hook it up between the battery and the balast resistor and try starting the car. Presto. that was it. I'm getting good at this. lol. continue up to the cruise in reach under and screw with the connection inside a little bit and shes back on line.

I really didnt want to start to rip that dash out to put the new harness in but I believe someone up there is telling me something. lol

Anyhow. Other then that a pretty nice night to hang out, get some food, talk cars and have a generally nice time at the cruise in

I know you recently put in  a new dash harness,  but the fatal flaw in the system is the ammeter circuit including the bulkhead connections.

Sending the dash to red line for a voltmeter upgrade is money well spent.

Wiring in a solenoid for the ignition circuit is also time well spent.

Upgraded wiring from the Alternator output to the main tap of the starter solenoid is also a good thing.

The original wiring design was marginal at best.

Best of luck!

I used to carry a jumper wire in Sinnamon 30 years ago for just such problems...   not surprisingly,  when I got her back,  most of my wiring hackjobs were still there  ::)

Havent put the new dash harness in yet. I've got it purchased and its on my dresser waiting to be put in but I've been trying to postpone the installation till this fall after I have a chance to get the money together to do the other things I'd like to do under there when Im ready. Like the wiper motor, radio and heater box rebuild. Im basically just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best until then. but obviously it's talking to me loudly about this and I'm getting more and more worried    I may just have to bite the bullet and fork out the cash now.  :scratchchin:

electrical issues are a total pain, had a lot of problems last year with mine that were taken care of and it's such a huge relief, new harnesses all the way. i feel the pain and frustration for sure!!! the worst was when I was left stranded on a long stretch of interstate, no cell phone reception until I walked about 2-3 miles, no tools, no water, louisiana heat and humidity at the max, yuck...finally had a friend able to go by and help me out, get the car towed.

I had the same issue with the Coronet, idleing at a light and it just stopped like someone flipped the switch.  Mine was the fusable link, i did the Alt bypass and havent had the issue since.

Do you have the 70 R/T SE with the Gator Grain roof that was parked across from me on Saturday?
