Doors won't latch

Help! I put my car back together today after installing a new stereo system. I dabbed a bit of white lithium grease to the door lacthes and now they won't latch! They do latch half way but they will not fully close. How do I fix this? Doors have closed properly until today. I never leave the doors open so I don't get it. What up?

Q: I did have the doors open for extended periods while I ran cables etc for the stereo, is it possible/likely for the doors to have risen a tab bit? I was putzing with the doors and discovered if I applied a little downward pressure on the doors as I closed them they latched! :shruggy:

Strange, were the doors set while the car was on the gound or on stands?

The car was on the ground and the doors were open for extended periods as I crawled around inside putting the tunes in. I left the doors partially closed yesterday afternoon and finally they both close and latch normally! It would seem the doors rose a bit while I did all that work. Unibody weirdness is all I can think of.

Edit: While installing the new tunes last week I also jacked up the front end to replace the shocks. I set the car back down when I finished. Could that have caused this door closing issue? :shruggy:

I would say yes...

:yesnod:
yes it can do a little   , if you try to close the door or open  when jacked up / stands  at one end   should go back when the car is back on its wheels though !

Thanks guys.

Edit: First unibody I've ever had so.........I jacked the front of the car up this morning several inches the opposite direct from thr other day. Went for a walk, made breakfast and then lowered the car back down. Low and behold both doors now close/latch normally. Unibody weirdness fo' sho.

The latches are a tad touchy like that. I spent an hour with the door panel off, watching the star wheel and adjusting the latch to get it "just right"  :eek2:

I've seen some guys jacking up their car and then open the doors, looks much like a fish struggling. I think we could all use some frame connectors.. well not all of us  :icon_smile_blackeye:

Man you should try it with a convertible!  I made the mistake of jacking the car once without putting the top up and had a heart attack when I tried to close the door and it just bounced back  :eek2:  A few minutes later it was fine.  I DEFINITELY need some subframe connectors.

Sub frame connectors are the remedy here?
