Well, I finally did it. I quit smoking 2 weeks ago and haven't had a cigarette since  :icon_smile_big: It feels soooooo good to be able to breathe again. It was hard for the first week, but after that it has been alll downhill. I successfully fought my cravings, and man I am proud of myself. I have tried quitting before without much luck... but I know I can do it this time! Just thought I would share with everyone...

That's great. Congrats! I dropped cold turkey 10 or so years ago. (you really must've kicked it when you stop counting low long it's been or can't remember the date). It was after a KISS show in Syracuse.

Congrats on quitting. My father had a minor stroke last summer, & one thing he's been trying to do is quit smoking. He stopped for a bit, but is sneaking a few here & there. I should hit him with a 2"x4" when I see him.  ::)

Congrats, my "smoke free" anniversery is January 7 (1985).  :icon_smile_approve:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

congratulations!!!! what a wonderful achievement!!   keep to your guns, those tv commercials and movies will tempt you, not to mention any friends you have that smoke.

tips:

1) wash all your clothes
2) steam clean your carpets and furniture
3) throw away all ash trays
4) get rid of all matches/cigarette lighters except for 1 and keep that one hidden
5) and lastly, whatever you do, REMEMBER WHY YOU QUIT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Thanks guys... I was hangin' out with some friends a few nights ago, and all of them smoke. I didn't give in, but ohhh man was I tempted.
It feels so good to be healthy again  :yesnod:

what always helped me in quiting was sunflower seeds, straws, tooth picks, and chewing gum. it feels like your doing something about your cravings and the urge goes away to smoke..................well at least for me..

Well for me, I went on vacation so I was able to stay away from it a lot easier than I would have if I wasn't away from home. But everytime I got cravings to buy a pack or bum a cig from someone, my brother wouldn't allow it. That helped out a lot! A big part of quitting is your wanting to quit, so you have the drive to stay away from cigarettes.

good advice RD!

I quit smoking years ago. Now I can't stand the smell. I even get my room mate to smoke in her bedroom. :D She's now sleeping in an 'ash tray' every night.

It does smell gross, which I never realized when I was smoking. Makes me wonder why I even started???

That's awesome, man!

I quit again at the end of August.

It's funny how something you would almost consider a knee jerk reaction can become completely foreign to you.

Both times I've smoked since quitting, that exactly how is felt, foreign. :2thumbs:

I actually keep cigarettes around though.

It's more fun flirting with temptation.   :D :icon_smile_big:
