Could someone post pictures of their ignition key cylinder?  I need to get a new ignition and door cylinder set and want to make sure I'm buying the right ones.  Here are pics of the ones I'm thinking of getting.  The one with the Mopar box next to it is twice the price, and I know the box being in the picture doesn't mean the cylinders in the picture came from that box, but does the first picture look correct?  It's half the price!

top one is 70 -71  or is it 72's
bottom one is 72 ( maybe 73 ) and later

early ones have a spring loaded tab to lock it in the column
later ones have a spring loaded  pin that locks it in the column
and they are not interchangable

Nacho-RT74

WOAH!!! thats new to me LOL. ( we never end to learn LOL )

Detailing pics I guess you meant this:

( which in this case is in favor of Dan )

Thanks guys.  I bought the first picture (not the one with the Mopar box), so it looks like I'm ok.  $50 for NOS!  Sounds good to me.

One question for Bill.  How do you remove a cylinder that has already been installed with both of these designs?  How do you get these spring loaded tabs/pins to retract so you can slide the cylinder out?  I have to remove my old cylinder as I'm selling my column and they don't need it.  My current cylinder is an aftermarket so I don't know which spring loaded tab or pin it has so I'd appreciate any multi-approach methods you can advise.

Thanks,
Dan

Herea couple pictures of 1970 Column -
insert a pin here to depress the lock tab
and this is what it looks like removed

Thanks Bill, I should have asked earlier.  I spent an hour the other night with a mini flashlight looking around every crevice trying to figure out what held the damn thing in place.  It look so simple now.   :brickwall:

  I knew you'd be by Nacho with that link again.    Sorry, sometimes I take the lazy approach and ask, or I need something to break the stress at work.  I did have that link in the back of my mind and do have it bookmarked.   :2thumbs:

Ok, so thanks to Bill's (and Nacho's) help, I have my old cylinder out of my column, it took about 3.8 seconds.   :brickwall:

I have no idea what car this cylinder actually belongs to, or if it's a generic reproduction.   :shruggy:  I do have original pentastar keys that work in it, so I'm thinking A/C/E or late B body?  Does anyone recognize this so I might be able to sell it and able to describe what it is?

Thanks everyone!!!

I can tell you it's NOT 1970 Chrysler products at least not an original one anyway

All 1970 and ( 1970 only )  models were a satin nickle finish on the exterior visible tabs, 71 and later were bright chrome plated , as well as  MOST of the over the counter replacements.

Finding an NOS dull plated key cylinder is probaly one of,,if not the most difficult NOS pieces to find. and the one and only one i've ever seen sell brought over $500

Haha, yeah, she's quite the Frankenstein.  So now I've removed parts from my car that came from a Dodge truck, that's funny.  I guess a previous owner frequented a junk yard for parts.

Nacho,
That last link you shared, what did you mean by your comment?

74s uses the button kind, not the tab. That one on the link TO ME is THE KIT TO MY CAR with the button kind, matching everything, including the BIG NUT kind cilinder to the trunk. Pre 72 trunks are with same spring clips than used on doors
