Hey Everyone,
Long time no post. I found a few posts on this, but I didnt really see any suggestions on what to do or how to do it. I bought the 2 piece trunk pan from AMD and apparently it should have had a lip that attached to the tail panel. It does not and now that it is in there is a gap between the pan and the tail panel (see right side of pic below). Do I need to have them weld in a thin piece of sheet metal there or are there other/better options?
Thanks

That does not look like amd any one any one  :shruggy:and I think you need to do some more welding to the Fram rails  :Twocents: Get some metal  bend it to en L and weld it in !

This is the only pic I have that shows the gap and it is not real current. They have finished up all of that other stuff since the picture. The 2 piece pan came drop shipped from AMD via Dante's Moparts.

Yup, there should be a lip along the rear edge of the trunk pan that the rear valence is spot/plug welded to.

bend a piece of ~18-20 gauge 90deg with holes drilled along one side to plug weld it to the trunk.
and drill holes through the rear valence to plug weld to the new piece.

Obviously, would have been easier before your bumper supports and trunk lid support were installed.
Also, seam seal the heck out of it.

that looks like the older style  pans you got in the 80s /90s  , where you plug or & seam weld  it to the existing metal  ,  its not designed to be a factory type replacement panel ,  just a rust repair type thing ! just like the floor pans use to be / some still are  , apart from the recent introduction with in  the last 10 years  ,  of full  or half  or side ,  factory appearing floors / floor sections

Does anyone sell that thin, angled connecting piece or is it something you have to make yourself?

Just go to any AC duct shop, look in the metal fabrication section of the yellow pages.  Or go to the local high school to their metal shop and ask them to make it.  Use 18 or 20ga mild steel and get it six feet long so you can cut it down to length.  I made mine 3/4" X 3/4" X 6' and it worked fine.

I made it myself when I did mine.  No issues with doing it.
