Thanks Geno, I found some interesting info.

D= D700
1= body style(Compact van;Conventional cab;LCF Cab;std HD tilt cab;long Conv cab)
F= GVW (19501-26000)
R= engine (413-3 V8) I have been told it was a Cotton Owens built 361 ??
7= Year (1977)
J= plant (Tecumseh Road Truck Canada)
0= wheel base (133,145,157,175, 181, 197, 211, 221)

Greetings All,
That is a very nice looking truck.  It would be blast to drive.
It probably did come with a 413.  As mentioned, the 413 and 426 and 440 were still used in medium duty trucks, motorhomes, marine and industrial/stationary applications after they were phased out of use in passenger cars and trucks.  If, for some reason, they had a problem with the original engine early in its life, I could see the logic in a 361 replacement.  In the late 70s everyone was looking for gas mileage.  A 361 would give you the big block torque without all the CID.  And you really wouldn't need that much power just to haul a car - as opposed to if it were used as a gravel truck or something.  Replacement parts for the truck motor could have been a problem too given the state Chrysler was in at the time.  As many of you know, the industrial application motors vary quite a bit from those in cars and parts availability could have been an issue.
On the CDL, you probably won't need it unless you have air brakes or intend to license the truck for more than 26,001 combined gross vehicle weight.  Many of the DOT regulations are uniform from State to State but every State (and even weigh station lol) has their own regulations and interpretations of regulations.  It is best to at least make the effort of stopping in the first weigh station of each new State you enter.  If they wave you past, you are probably good for any stations in that State.
Great looking truck and probably one of the last.  Wasn't Dodge pretty much out of the intermediate truck game by 78 or 79?

Thanks, according to the data plate, this one came with the 361 but Cotton said he replaced the original after breaking a Ceank in the original.

Allen...what's up with all of us wing car guys buying old Dodge trucks lately?

I'm almost as excited about my crewcab as I am my Superbird.

There is one of those sitting in a driveway a few miles from my house.  Been there for at least 2 years.  I'll get some pics sometime.  i'd like to have it but that thing is huge!  It would fit my family of 5 real good though.

Guys, I started the truck last night and there is a small ovall light that is labeled above it "Control Failure" this is next to the air brake set and release Yellow rectangle.  This light lit up with a buzzer and remained on until I shut the truck off.  The truck sounded good and Idled smooth.  I have read the operators manual and read nothing about this indicator.  Does any one have an idea or know how I can fix it.  I also found the original Certa card and a inspection reciept listing the owner of the truck as Cotton Owens Interprizes and was inspected and signed by Cotton Owens.

My guess is since you say it has air brakes it's the low air warning light, buzzer.  You need a certain amount of air psi to release the brakes.  If the truck sat for a while the air tanks may have bled dry.

So either the compressor isn't building air
                      -you have an air leak keeping the tank from building pressure.

Do the axles have air cans on them?  You may have to learn how to adjust brakes.  Don't find out the hard way your brakes are out of adjustment, DAMHIK.   :-\

When I walked/worked, the bigger the better.  I used to love going downtown Portland in my crane.

When I heavy hauled & needed more than one pilot car usually meant the big shit.  :thumbs:

You'll get used to it.

Cool picks, thanks  It was the ait brake warning after it sits it takes a bit for them to get to pressure.
