How long did you actively search for your Charger?

Not how long you dreamt of owning one or casually looked at ads but how long did you purposely search for your car before you found it?

about one day. i drove over to the chev place and looked around than went to the ford looking at a  thunderbrid than went to the dodge place  and bought the charger and drove it home the same day

As a matter of fact, I was all set to buy a 69 Thunderbird last fall (it's still available for 8500 Canadian). I spent the winter checking the local kijiji and lespac websites and in March found my Charger on the second day it was posted. It practically fell in to my lap. Went to see it March 5th, made an offer, paid for it March 12. Brought it home March 31st. Woke up this morning to find about half an inch of snow on her (no garage). It melted pretty quick and today is nice and sunny. Spent the morning cleaning it up and went out for an hour's drive around town. Lots of fun !!!

 Well, i started saving $20.oo a Wk. in '82, by '84 I was actively looking, Charger R/T S.E. was at the top of my list, second was a '67/8 Shelby GT 500, But their were another 20 rare models on the list, 427 Impala Convert. Various Tri-Power Converts from GM. AMX with the Go-Pack. It would have had to have been an awfully rare and heavily optioned model to get my Cash. But as fate would have it, my buddy saw a black Mopar with a Bumble Bee stripe from the freeway and asked me if I wanted to check it out... Well it was a 3xBlk. R/T SE - and since it needed goin' thru, 'n I figured could make it the way I always wanted..  It had a lot of potential,  The rest is history.

My 1st 68 I found in 2 days back in 75, had it 5 yrs and sold it, yes I know, it was stupid.  Then around 1998 I started looking for a 68 RT with a 4 speed that was complete and restored, it took me 10 yrs but my Patience paid off, found one in South Carolina for the right price, been in heaven ever since.

My car was bought new by a buddy of mine. I knew he had the car in storage but
he wasn't selling! It sat in storage for a few years with me hammering him to sell it to me. One he called me up one day and said OK I'll sell it to you. This was about three years ago just before prices took a dive. I paid too much for it but its a NM beauty.

Looked in 81-85 or so not real hard found a 70 RR my grand Father said Iwould Kill my self the way U drive ,so I was stuck on one car(not telling) and still have one ,went to car shows looked at them did not really think of buying one ,-- in 2000 had my compuper and was looking on ebay just looking-- my wife told me one day (U have been wanting one for a long time get one --I was shocked ) so I looked hard and found one in my area emailed the guy he was less than 3 blocks away went to look at the car --put money down that night and this was when these cars were at there highest prices -,picked up the car the next day with help from a dam good Friend Jay trailered it home and been working on it ever sense (2008) !!

Troy messaged me that day saying he had some projects which could perhaps get for that price in thatg condition with the engin/gearbox I wish since I didnt care for originality, then he remembered "41Husk/Allen is selling his and Ive seen that car at monster Mopar and its a really good car"

So I messaged Allen, he still had the 68, 383ci (not 440) and 3 speed on the column (not 4-speed) but all the metal/body is all oiginal including trunk floor and floor pans as it never rusted away and was garaged all its life.. He was willing to let it go for $19 000 to me if it didnt sell on E-bay.

Asked for few photos (Ive just seen toomany dodgy people and too much garbage, wasnt accusing Alleng of being that way but after all my experiences its hard to trust especially online where his mates are saying its good... if u know what i mean)

However, he was willing and oblidging, got the car on stands for me, took photos in all the quarters and everything (obviously was an honest guy) So after Ebay fell through I sent him his deposit, and then i made it happen before christmas for him (like 20tth december or 21st) he got his complete payment. He was happy, he could now get his Daytona, and I got my 68 Charger. Sure its needed a complete power steer rebuild and power steer pump, it needed the right hand side splash shield (was missing completelly) and few bits and pieces like a correct headlight switch with the mechanism for the vacuum hose kit, still needs a gasket for the trim ring on the fuel cap so it doesnt fill up with water... sure I spent perhaps 3000 extra on it already, but for what I got Im very happy. Not 4-speed or 440 but hey... To stick a 440 or 4-speed in this would cost the same as though i got a 440 in the condition of this car anyway and im not after original cause I got my plans. So maybe its called "took one message" to find it. Thanks to the people that told me Allen was honest etc, will always be gratefull for this car.

I looked every day for about a year.  It was 2007 and everyone had lots of money so the 69's were bringing sick stupid money.  I was so desperate I was looking into 68's and 70's.  Not that they are of any less value but I always wanted a 69 since 69. I'm very strong about that.  Love all 3 years, but 69 only is for me.  When this car came on eBay it was buy it now for 29,500.00  I couldn't let it slip away.  Anything half decent was sold asap.  I grabbed it and even though I have a ton of money in it, it beats looking for one.  That is over.

No it was orig. T-3. But i did want a black '69 R/T SE Charger. See the Tint thread for more details.

I looked for a '68 or a purple '70 Charger from about '93 to '05.  My 1st Charger was a '72 in about  '94.  I didn't get a 2nd gen. until '99.  I got my purple car finally in '05.

There was a '69 Charger R/T local (Hays, Ks. early '80's) that member Brad owns or owned.  I loved that car & in '84 bought a '68 Coronet R/T in the same color combo cause it was the next best thing, local & affordable.  My love for 2nd gen. Chargers came a little later.

It was a wierd situation for me. I wanted one since jr high. When I was old enough to drive, my meager Burger King pay didnt add up enough to buy one. I got into Chebbies for several years. I was 34 when I finally decided to look for one, and My 70 turned up in the newspaper classifieds.(remember THOSE?)

I wasnt looking for one. One day, I just looked in the local classifieds, and there it was.

I called the guy, and he said that no one else called. He gave me a super good price, and I bought it.

Same thing happened with my 68 Dart GTS.

I had a deal on my then 71 Aussie Mopar Valiant Pacer come up out of the blue as it was not up for sale, when that sounded solid I called a mate and asked he he was interested in selling me his s/b 68 Charger, a week or so later I was driving it home thinking 'Hell Yeah, finally got a 68 Charger "
Sold it on January 30 this year and have been looking hardout everywhere for my next 68 Charger, this time BB 4spd or console,  now this one will be the keeper

Didn't really have to, saw Travis put this one up for sale on moparts and over here. I met up with him to buy some parts he had for my former '69 and saw that the car was still there, surprised it hadn't sold. Saw it a second time getting some other parts and then my interest really sparked, sure, it had some VERY minor things and is/was nothing to me but that it hadn't sold was just puzzling to me, I saw and still see way worse or questionable cars for way more than he was selling it for. Loved the stance and the 15' wheels, though I really dig the pro-touring look and aim for 17' wheels. I even like the odd white-on-white exterior, which makes me so wishy-washy about whether to keep it or get rid of it, I haven't really seen any other white on white like that, it's always white with black top or green. So I sold the other '69 as it was a bit of a monster (VERY fun) and needed some other things that weren't realistic on my budget, on ebay. Didn't even have it up for 2-3 days and got an offer WAY beyond my reserve. The only stipulation was having the car delivered...told him that for his buying price, I'd GLADLY drive it to him and I did, wasn't far, I live in Louisiana and he in Texas. That car is now a very nice General Lee.

ANYWAY, I figured this very much done car with nice AC, including the disc brake upgrades in the trunk would be perfect for me, price was decent, location nearby, I can put my kid in it no problem and do it all the time (it's my daily driver) and it was a done deal. My only regret is that the AWESOME tint had to be taken off, I have bad luck with the cops in the town I go to University, with them stopping me a LOT-and I promise, I don't burn tires, race, etc. I'm more of a cruiser.

Due to my constant driving I've had to upgrade and repair a lot of things that come with cars this age and older restoration gremlins but it's super solid now.

The only issue I have currently and I would HATE to do it but if it comes to it and I have to, I will...is that I may have to sell it to help me out with some things, such as opening a photography business (online only) with getting more gear than I have currently...and the lady, baby and I will be moving into our own place sometime too, so it would definitely help. I would only sell it for a certain price range, nothing too high but not willing to take a big loss on it and if I don't get what I want then I'd totally keep it no problem and find another way to get things done, no matter how challenging. But if I sold it, of course, I'd get another '69 preferably-but one that would probably need some work, maybe needing paint and some minor rust repair but nothing major. I've also seen some good deals on satellites/roadrunners and coronets from years I wouldn't mind owning, so maybe I'd end up with 2 b-bodies and I wouldn't mind that!

I've learned a lot from the 3 cars I've owned so far and it doesn't hurt to have a friend and his dad do the major work for me, who are mopar specialists, have a good amount of great mopars themselves and it's specially nice to have their kind of knowledge, attention to detail and expertise nearby. they won third place a couple of years back for a duster they did at the mopar nats.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my white Charger and was glad I didn't have to go 14+ hours or 6+ hours away to get it and drive it back home.
