How long did you actively search for your Charger?

Not how long you dreamt of owning one or casually looked at ads but how long did you purposely search for your car before you found it?

charger490

about one day. i drove over to the chev place and looked around than went to the ford looking at a  thunderbrid than went to the dodge place  and bought the charger and drove it home the same day

jimcoronet

As a matter of fact, I was all set to buy a 69 Thunderbird last fall (it's still available for 8500 Canadian). I spent the winter checking the local kijiji and lespac websites and in March found my Charger on the second day it was posted. It practically fell in to my lap. Went to see it March 5th, made an offer, paid for it March 12. Brought it home March 31st. Woke up this morning to find about half an inch of snow on her (no garage). It melted pretty quick and today is nice and sunny. Spent the morning cleaning it up and went out for an hour's drive around town. Lots of fun !!!

Back N Black

I spent 2 years driving all over Ontario and Quebec before i found my Charger. I found it 5 km down the road at the end of my search.

Well, i started saving $20.oo a Wk. in '82, by '84 I was actively looking, Charger R/T S.E. was at the top of my list, second was a '67/8 Shelby GT 500, But their were another 20 rare models on the list, 427 Impala Convert. Various Tri-Power Converts from GM. AMX with the Go-Pack. It would have had to have been an awfully rare and heavily optioned model to get my Cash. But as fate would have it, my buddy saw a black Mopar with a Bumble Bee stripe from the freeway and asked me if I wanted to check it out... Well it was a 3xBlk. R/T SE - and since it needed goin' thru, 'n I figured could make it the way I always wanted..  It had a lot of potential,  :scratchchin: The rest is history.

mine kinda fell in my lap from a friend of mine. didnt really look at all.

MOXY100

My 1st 68 I found in 2 days back in 75, had it 5 yrs and sold it, yes I know, it was stupid.  Then around 1998 I started looking for a 68 RT with a 4 speed that was complete and restored, it took me 10 yrs but my Patience paid off, found one in South Carolina for the right price, been in heaven ever since.

twodko

My car was bought new by a buddy of mine. I knew he had the car in storage but
he wasn't selling! It sat in storage for a few years with me hammering him to sell it to me. One he called me up one day and said OK I'll sell it to you. This was about three years ago just before prices took a dive. I paid too much for it but its a NM beauty.

Ghoste, Made 1 message on this forum "Looking for a 440-speed charger in no rust condition up to 30k if possible"

Troy messaged me that day saying he had some projects which could perhaps get for that price in thatg condition with the engin/gearbox I wish since I didnt care for originality, then he remembered "41Husk/Allen is selling his and Ive seen that car at monster Mopar and its a really good car"

So I messaged Allen, he still had the 68, 383ci (not 440) and 3 speed on the column (not 4-speed) but all the metal/body is all oiginal including trunk floor and floor pans as it never rusted away and was garaged all its life.. He was willing to let it go for $19 000 to me if it didnt sell on E-bay.

Asked for few photos (Ive just seen toomany dodgy people and too much garbage, wasnt accusing Alleng of being that way but after all my experiences its hard to trust especially online where his mates are saying its good... if u know what i mean)

However, he was willing and oblidging, got the car on stands for me, took photos in all the quarters and everything (obviously was an honest guy) So after Ebay fell through I sent him his deposit, and then i made it happen before christmas for him (like 20tth december or 21st) he got his complete payment. He was happy, he could now get his Daytona, and I got my 68 Charger. Sure its needed a complete power steer rebuild and power steer pump, it needed the right hand side splash shield (was missing completelly) and few bits and pieces like a correct headlight switch with the mechanism for the vacuum hose kit, still needs a gasket for the trim ring on the fuel cap so it doesnt fill up with water... sure I spent perhaps 3000 extra on it already, but for what I got Im very happy. Not 4-speed or 440 but hey... To stick a 440 or 4-speed in this would cost the same as though i got a 440 in the condition of this car anyway and im not after original cause I got my plans. So maybe its called "took one message" to find it. Thanks to the people that told me Allen was honest etc, will always be gratefull for this car.

Thanks 1 Hot Daytona (Brian?) who confirmed me when I rang up that Allens car is good. Thanks MoparJim (i think it was) or mosntermopar (something with Mopar in the name) for saying Allen would eat glass before misleading someone. U guys rock

Your car is an orinal 3x black R/T SE car?
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I looked every day for about a year.  It was 2007 and everyone had lots of money so the 69's were bringing sick stupid money.  I was so desperate I was looking into 68's and 70's.  Not that they are of any less value but I always wanted a 69 since 69. I'm very strong about that.  Love all 3 years, but 69 only is for me.  When this car came on eBay it was buy it now for 29,500.00  I couldn't let it slip away.  Anything half decent was sold asap.  I grabbed it and even though I have a ton of money in it, it beats looking for one.  That is over.

No it was orig. T-3. But i did want a black '69 R/T SE Charger. See the Tint thread for more details.

My first Charger (the '73) kind of fell into my lap (given to me from my sis-in-law - God, I love her  ) while the '68 took two or three months.

I looked for a '68 or a purple '70 Charger from about '93 to '05.  My 1st Charger was a '72 in about  '94.  I didn't get a 2nd gen. until '99.  I got my purple car finally in '05.

There was a '69 Charger R/T local (Hays, Ks. early '80's) that member Brad owns or owned.  I loved that car & in '84 bought a '68 Coronet R/T in the same color combo cause it was the next best thing, local & affordable.  My love for 2nd gen. Chargers came a little later.

My car:

His car:

Kern Dog

It was a wierd situation for me. I wanted one since jr high. When I was old enough to drive, my meager Burger King pay didnt add up enough to buy one. I got into Chebbies for several years. I was 34 when I finally decided to look for one, and My 70 turned up in the newspaper classifieds.(remember THOSE?)

jeryst

I wasnt looking for one. One day, I just looked in the local classifieds, and there it was.

I called the guy, and he said that no one else called. He gave me a super good price, and I bought it.

Same thing happened with my 68 Dart GTS.

I had a deal on my then 71 Aussie Mopar Valiant Pacer come up out of the blue as it was not up for sale, when that sounded solid I called a mate and asked he he was interested in selling me his s/b 68 Charger, a week or so later I was driving it home thinking 'Hell Yeah, finally got a 68 Charger "
Sold it on January 30 this year and have been looking hardout everywhere for my next 68 Charger, this time BB 4spd or console,  now this one will be the keeper

So, 2 months at this stage and waiting  :icon_smile_big:

Didn't really have to, saw Travis put this one up for sale on moparts and over here. I met up with him to buy some parts he had for my former '69 and saw that the car was still there, surprised it hadn't sold. Saw it a second time getting some other parts and then my interest really sparked, sure, it had some VERY minor things and is/was nothing to me but that it hadn't sold was just puzzling to me, I saw and still see way worse or questionable cars for way more than he was selling it for. Loved the stance and the 15' wheels, though I really dig the pro-touring look and aim for 17' wheels. I even like the odd white-on-white exterior, which makes me so wishy-washy about whether to keep it or get rid of it, I haven't really seen any other white on white like that, it's always white with black top or green. So I sold the other '69 as it was a bit of a monster (VERY fun) and needed some other things that weren't realistic on my budget, on ebay. Didn't even have it up for 2-3 days and got an offer WAY beyond my reserve. The only stipulation was having the car delivered...told him that for his buying price, I'd GLADLY drive it to him and I did, wasn't far, I live in Louisiana and he in Texas. That car is now a very nice General Lee.

ANYWAY, I figured this very much done car with nice AC, including the disc brake upgrades in the trunk would be perfect for me, price was decent, location nearby, I can put my kid in it no problem and do it all the time (it's my daily driver) and it was a done deal. My only regret is that the AWESOME tint had to be taken off, I have bad luck with the cops in the town I go to University, with them stopping me a LOT-and I promise, I don't burn tires, race, etc. I'm more of a cruiser.

Due to my constant driving I've had to upgrade and repair a lot of things that come with cars this age and older restoration gremlins but it's super solid now.

The only issue I have currently and I would HATE to do it but if it comes to it and I have to, I will...is that I may have to sell it to help me out with some things, such as opening a photography business (online only) with getting more gear than I have currently...and the lady, baby and I will be moving into our own place sometime too, so it would definitely help. I would only sell it for a certain price range, nothing too high but not willing to take a big loss on it and if I don't get what I want then I'd totally keep it no problem and find another way to get things done, no matter how challenging. But if I sold it, of course, I'd get another '69 preferably-but one that would probably need some work, maybe needing paint and some minor rust repair but nothing major. I've also seen some good deals on satellites/roadrunners and coronets from years I wouldn't mind owning, so maybe I'd end up with 2 b-bodies and I wouldn't mind that!

I've learned a lot from the 3 cars I've owned so far and it doesn't hurt to have a friend and his dad do the major work for me, who are mopar specialists, have a good amount of great mopars themselves and it's specially nice to have their kind of knowledge, attention to detail and expertise nearby. they won third place a couple of years back for a duster they did at the mopar nats.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my white Charger and was glad I didn't have to go 14+ hours or 6+ hours away to get it and drive it back home.

I wasn't even looking for my 68. I was just going through a nasty divorce so I didn't have two cents that could rub against each other in the same pocket.

I knew this kid next door to where I worked had this 68 that he would race to the end of his dead end street and back. I knew he was going to grenade that little 318 or the 3 speed tranny one day and sure enough he took out the engine.

I asked him if he wanted to sell it and he said NO. He dropped a 400 in it and never got it running, so I asked him again if he wanted to sell it and his mother said Yes telling him to sell it and get something that ran.

So we agreed on $400. They agreed that I could give him $100 down and then pay the rest out over a 4 week time frame. That was in 1986. I ran across the receipts they wrote out each week when I bought it just the other day.

I had been looking for a 69 for 2-3 months.
Dropped into the local shop to buy cigarettes one day and they had the latest Unique Car magazine on the shelf.
Started to flick through it and on the first page I flicked to was my soon to be Charger.
Was fate I tell ya.. fate

I would like a 440 one day though.
383's been kind to me since I had it rebuilt but I'm sure the extra grunt wouldn't go astray
Gotta love a '69

My wife told me it would be nice to have a car to bring to shows. I was shocked, but I sold my rare Gene Simmons Axe bass and I only looked for one week until I found my tripple green 73. A week after that it was on my door step. My boy was only two at the time and when he saw it he looked up at me and said-yup, thats mine. Haha....So it will be his someday.

I was beyond lucky and finally the one that got the deal, not the other guy!  I logged onto Craigslist one night just on a whim, typed in "1969 Dodge" into the search and up came an RT/SE Charger.  Called the guy and he said he had just placed the ad about :20 minutes ago.  I was the 5th guy to call.  :30 minutes later, I was looking it over and a deal was done.  So when it was all said and done, I guess it was :50 minutes.  Not too bad and it'll NEVER happen again.   :coolgleamA:  Seriously..it won't.  I don't have anymore cash! :icon_smile_big:

My first one took about a week, it practically fell into my lap in High school one day when a really good friend told me about one he found in a local salvage yard, I bought it the next morning for $800.00 plus a parts car to boot....

The second one turned up on this forum a couple days after making a post, the day it was delivered to my door, my friend who had found the first one helped me out by flat bedding the shell to my shop on his tilt bed after the transport dropped it off at a mutual friend's dealership...

I started 'actively' searching in mid '96, and brought a Charger home on a flat bed in Jan. of 1999.

I had a Charger ever since I turned 18, just didn't have my dream one until 2002.   It's the one in my signature!  440 4 Speed Plum Crazy all #'s matching.  Could kick my self as I was actually thinking about selling it last year... WTF!
My name is Mike and I'm a Moparholic!

Old Moparz

When I first got my license in 1980 I never searched for a Charger, or any car. I drove a spare POS Datsun my parents had, (when it ran) then bought my own first car, a '69 Cadillac Hearse. After about a year I decided I needed a different car & looked at about 6 or 7 cars in total. Only one was a Charger, a nice looking & good running, '69 SE. None of the others were Chargers, I was just looking for the most that my money could get & remember looking at a '55 Belair, & a '67 GTO. I probably spent a few weeks looking, but probably spent 3 months trying to sell the Hearse.

After 3 years of owning that Charger, I had put a lot of money into an abused car & now broke. Also, the car was looking rough with some rot coming through, & replacement sheet metal didn't exist back then. I started looking for another Charger with a good body, but after several months of seeing junk or expensive clean ones, I gave up & bought a '70 GTX body in nice shape. One bad thing after another happened, including the towing outfit wrecking the GTX, so thinking about any old hot rod came to an end with me going to college at the same time. I drove a handful of clunkers over the years & then my first new vehicle, a 1993 Nissan Pick up.

Fast forward to around 2003, & I decided I was going Charger hunting to build a Charger convertible using my Coronet ragtop as a base. The first think I bought wasn't a Charger, it was a Charger door jamb at Carlisle for $30. I was now on my way to getting another Charger, one piece at a time. Soon after I decided to look for a decent Charger shell & found the '68 I currently have after not finding a decent '69. The hunt for this '68 took about two or three months on ebay.

Technically, I've been looking for a '69 on & off for about 28 years.

It's hard to say.  I looked seriously through most of my high school years, so 4 years there, and then looked for a couple years while I was overseas in Panama, so there's 6, then looked kind of on-and-off from 1996 to 2004, maybe 3 or 4 years out of all of that.

So, I guess maybe 10 years cumulative.

(though I wanted one from 1979 to 2004 when I got one....)

Charger_Dart

5 Years or so...
In 1986 I was actively looking for a '69 Charger, and all I could find was junk or expensive nice ones. After searching for about 6 months a good friend of mine told me about a '70 Superbird 440-6bbl, 4 speed car in pieces that was for sale for $6500. I went and looked at it and could not pass it up since everything was there. Brought it home in boxes with no idea how to put it back together. I learned a lot and loved that car. So much fun to drive around. Then one day another friend said he saw a '68 Charger for sale, cheap. I checked it out and found my current R/T in 1991 and have been enjoying it ever since. Another great car.  A few years later the bird did fly the coop due to the big D  :'( but at least she let me keep the Charger  :D

Charger´69

Well I´ve wanted old muscle car like '68-'69 Charger maybe 20 years.. And I bought my first American car when I was 23 years old in 2003 (Camaro Iroc-Z). I started searching older muscle cars like Charger '68-'69, Cuda '72-'72 and Challenger '70-'71 in october 2009. I found (or my dealer actually) this '69 Charger in december 2009 and I reserved it immediately and bought it two weeks later, it was so amazing  I got it here to Finland in april 2010. So I didn´t have to search actively for long, only 2 months and I found what I was looking for  :D

Took me a few months.  I was originally looking for a 68, but couldn't find any that were in decent shape.  On one trip checking out a 68 in Las Vegas, NM I stumbled on a 70 Charger 500 that was in excellent shape.  I couldn't pass up a numbers matching car that was in such great shape and ended up making a deal.  Very happy, but would still like to get a 68 someday  :popcrn:

I've bascially looked for a '69 Daytona since I began to drive back in '81.. As you can see to the left, I finally accomplished my dream. Now, I did have a lot of Chargers and other mopars between now and then. All of them fun, fullfilling and one step closer to that elusive Daytona......
