In some ways this is similar to when an athlete gets paid millions, but it falls short in that at least with an athlete, the athlete is being compensated for skills & physical abilities. Not sure which is worse for the extinction of the human race, natural disasters & radioactivity, or this.....

Snooki Gets $32K to Talk 'GTL' on Rutgers Campus

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The pouf is mightier than the pen when it comes to speaking fees at New Jersey's largest university.

The Rutgers University Programming Association paid Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of the reality TV show "Jersey Shore" $32,000 Thursday to dish on her hairstyle, fist pumps, as well as the GTL — gym, tanning, laundry — lifestyle.

That's $2,000 more than the $30,000 the university is paying Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison to deliver Rutgers' commencement address in May.

Money for Polizzi's appearance came from the mandatory student activity fee.

Freshman Adham Abdel-Raouf told The Star-Ledger of Newark he thought the price was a bargain given Snooki's popularity. Another freshman, Dan Oliveto, said it was a waste of money.

Snooki's advice to students: "Study hard, but party harder."

Good point, & why this story really annoys me. It's not that some dimwit can earn a good living being a dimwit, it's that a college thinks it's worthwhile spending that kind of money paying her to enlighten their students with her "wisdom". For $32K, here has to be at least a dozen people that could give students a good lecture & still have enough cash leftover to get them all a cake with a much better looking stripper to pop out.

It's not so much that dumbing down pays.  Not directly.

It's that being a celebrity pays.  When you're trying to to be famous it's not really a liability to be dumb.

If your kids college career was anything like mine, it will last longer than her being 'famous'.
