How difficult/expensive is it to get rid of the vinyl top?

I'm searching for a black RT without vinyl -- just don't like the vinyl look.  It seems like the majority of these have vinyl roofs.  I know the vinyl can be removed.  I wouldn't want the trim either.  To go to a metal roof, I assume that there are trim holes that need filled?

Does this look factory correct once done -- or is getting rid of the cosmetic differences difficult?  What would I expect to pay a shop for this to be done, if I expanded my look to include vinyl cars? (NOT including the paint job, I know that cost can vary to the moon.)

If it is a project car, sure some extra work involved welding up the vinyl top holes, smoothing out the factory seams where the roof is attached to 1/4's,NTM,any small bodywork imperfections in the roof that were invisible with the vinyl, now will have to be done very nice.I just went thru this last year on a fact triple black R/T SE that I did the body/paint for a member here.He also wanted the vinyl removed.
Now,if you buy a car done, and want it off,you can plan on pretty much the whole back of the car being repainted, and blending into the doors,or maybe even the whole thing depending on what color it is.
BTW,nice GS,glad to have you on the site,I also have a 70 GS 455 Stage 1,......awaiting resto though.

I'll just put it this way:

If the prospect of removing & erasing the evidence of a vinyl top is scaring you off, then you probably shouldn't get into the Charger hobby.

Nah it's no big deal if you're having your car painted and don't want the vinyl back on.
As stated, the holes just need to be filled where the moldings were and that's usually a minor job when you look at the bodywork as a whole.
Gotta love a '69

I can get rid of a vinyl top in less than five minutes. What takes time is dealing with the holes and rust left behind.

Non-vinyl roof drip rail moldings are a tough find.
I got a set of repro's and I wasn't even aware that there was a difference.
They fit and look fine on my car. It used to have a vinyl roof.
What's the diff?

One was made to compensate for the thickness of the vinyl roof & one wasn't. Sounds like the repro guys have made up for that difference.

I had a 68 non-vinyl top Charger. I recall under the molding were these die cut rubber or vinyl strips spaced about a foot apart. It was black and about 4 times the thickness of electrical tape..maybe closer to plumbers tape in thickness, but dense and hard, not stretchy.

I got mine here in Australia. I haven't seen them advertised elsewhere myself but I'm sure someone will know.
