The bottom row underlined numbers is your VIN.

The X9 is likely a TX9 Black color code.  The 113 is your build date I believe, Jan 13th 1969.  The 229582 is your order or sequence number.

This is the explanation of the order number from the 1970 Charger Registry fender tag decoder page.  The last 6 digits of your VIN is the build sequence number.

QuoteThe next code identifies the vehicle order number. This number is simply the order number assigned to the dealership on the original order sheet. Sometimes it is preceded by a letter, such as a C (Canada), E (Export), K (Special Order), M00 (Show Car), M90 (Showcar w/Sunroof), M99 (Sunroof Car), Q (Executive Lease or Public Relations), or T (Chrysler Lease).

Thank you Mike I got it now.

Dan pretty much explained the underlined codes....  The X9 is the black color that is painted on the door frames to match the C6X black vinyl buckets.

Is there any further information about the car that I can obtain by registering it ?

Is Wayne and his registry still operating?  I sent him a registration form last year and never got a response.  Now, his website seems to be gone?

He still has the registry through facebook from what I can tell. Facebook is a pain and I'd rather not deal with it. Upon talking to Wayne he said to send him a few photos of various things on the car. I sent him everything he requested and haven't heard anything yet, kind of annoying.

Trying to find out your cars history is quite stressful if there's not much to go on... My car is possibly quite rare and not knowing if it's the real deal or not is frustrating...

resq302

Not trying to defend anyone or anything but from what I know of Wayne, he is a merchant mariner who is away for lengthy periods of time from his home and I don't think you can get a wifi signal out on a boat.  I can, however, say that I have met Wayne a couple times and he is about as humble and decent a person as one can be.

What about the car leads you to believe it's 'rare' and what makes you questions whether or not it's the real deal?
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

It could be rare in the fact it's a true R/T and quite possibly a factory 4 speed. Unfortunately it's missing the fender tag so :shruggy: It doesn't have the Dana rear like 4 speed cars but does have the clutch pedal box bracing...

I know the car filtered through a forum in 2006 but I haven't had any luck at getting in contact with them. It was mentioned that it was purchased in Oregon and went to California. Sometime prior to that it was registered in Washington according to Wayne but that's all I know about it.

Probably should start a new thread... not sure what or where to put it though... Tunnel hump might be cut, it's a bit rough where the linkage on the trans is instead of being smooth like the passengers side, will have to pull up the carpet although I don't really want to as it's new.

4 speed/Dana bump stops are different?  Lucky for me my car doesn't have bump stops   didn't notice that before....

That's alright TAN TOP no prob.

Chris so I was wondering I do not need a title to register my car here is CT. so I was going to drop that. But what I do want to find out if there is a how to find out how many owners had my car and who they where. Would like to have my original 383 in my car if possible if i can not find it was going to get a crate 440 thanks Chris. I am also curious to find out where my car has been.

Mike you could try your local DMV for an owner search. Not sure if CT does that but some states do.
I do get emails from time to time with people that have blocks with VIN's on them.  I have reunited 2 Charger 500's with their original engines this way.  Nothing on your 383 sadly and like doctor4766, you are the start of the paper trail

Sort of a strange feeling knowing that your engine might possibly be out there somewhere and could be in someone else's car.... Maybe the owner of the car that my engine belongs to is looking for it... Unless every engine and trans was registered you'd almost never know.

Do I have to register to see if you have my car on file ?
