The alternator in my 69 Charger looks like it is going bad.
I'm not positive, but I believe it is original.

Should I have it rebuilt, or just replace it?

Just looking for opinions.

See if it date codes to the car, if it does you might want to keep it.

wondering how one can tell it's bad by "the looks" of it??

Just replace it, but If you want your lights not to dim when at idle, you need to upgrade to something like a GM one wire and be done with it...

I would not replace it with anything from Autozone or equivilent, junk! junk that WILL break and strand you, ask me how I know!  I have a guy who rebuilds starters and alternator a few miles from my house, now mine is as good as new will last a long, long time. MPJ

Try to check the alternator yourself, it's a simple design.
See if the brushes are worn out, cheap to buy new. Replace the voltage regulator with an electronic version, check your connectors for corrosion, and all is probably as new again.

Looking at the amp gauge, not the alternator.
