I just rebuilt my 18 spline 4 speed, now I'm getting ready to repaint it and need to know what color the 4 speeds were painted

I believe the color was as cast (cast iron color). Get some cast blast enamel and spray it

I believe originally they were bare steel with the trans code stenciled on the side of the case.
