Since my 69 R/T is missing some parts I could use some help. I picked up a gas cap and trim ring at the Nats. What type of fasteners are used to attach them to the quarter panel? I am interested in the type of head, size and length. Pictures of the installed setup and separate would be great. Do the screws screw into the sheetmetal or are there  u nuts or j nuts used? Is there a seal of some kind used under the trim ring? Are the attaching hardware and seal available from any of the resto suppliers?
Thanks,
John

3 philips screws through the cap, the base, the quarter panel and into the gas filler neck. The screws are 3/4" long with a 3/16" dia. head coarse thread. The pictures aren't very good I can't find my digital camera.

Thanks, MRCHARGER.
Do the screws go into the lip of the gas fill tube or are there supposed to be some kind of u nuts on the gas fill tube flange?

I've only seen them screwed right into the ring on the filler neck. Don't forget the gasket between the filler neck and the quarter.

TylerCharger69

Don't forget the foam gasket which goes between the body and the trim ring as well!!!     :2thumbs:

Where can you buy the anti tamper screws?
Does anyone reproduce the locking gas caps?

Mine has those tamper proof screws. Needle nose vise grips will remove them without damage if you're careful.

Ghoste

There is a special bit for them that can be used with your ratchet or a nutdriver.

Never seen the anti-theft screws before.
My car has the locking gas cap. On the broadcast sheet Locking Gas Cap 538 has a number 8 in it. The lid is just like the regular lid but no spring or rubber gasket seal, just a round rubber bumper in the top.

I found the anti-theft screws on eBay last year as a set with the bit.  They were reasonable, like $10-$15.

Yes code J46 only found on the Broadcast Sheet

Laysons Restorations actually makes these in repro...A LOT cheaper as well (keys are kind of goofy but who cares?)
