SEMPERFIDELIS

Hey guys, wasnt sure where to post so I tossed it in here. Hope thats ok. My names Dustin, Im currently 23 and live in south central PA. Im currently driving one of my "dream" DD's an early 4th Gen Firebird T-Top. Yeah its a GM, but the 3.8L offers the reliability and fuel economy I need right now with a nice ride and..well...T-tops lol. I picked it up for $1100 as a DD/Beater so I have something fun and nice to get me around while I begin researching my true dream project and saving up for it. MOPAR flows through my veins, I started out with a 97 Neon, modded what I could at 16 years old, went through a couple more neons, and a few motor swaps. Ive owned (in order) 97 Neon, 92 Silverado Z71, 89 Daytona Shelby Turbo II, 99 Mustang (total garbage), 93 Sierra Z71, 85 Shelby Charger Turbo I, and now the 96 Firebird. Now back to a better subject, the Charger. Id really like to find a 1968-1970 Dodge Charger, Im not really concerned about the trim as Im going to be looking for a roller, or dying survivor. The plans are this: Blown 426 at around 600hp. Heres the thing, being as I was younger I never really did a whole lot of research on the Charger, it was just a dream back then. Well now Im striving to go back to school to equip myself for better jobs/funding. So Im looking to make this dream come true over the next few years. I know this wont be easy, at least all the time, and I know Ill be frustrated at times. It comes with the territory. My question is, can you guys help me realize my dream and give me pointers in what to look for in a roller car? I want to be as prepared as possible when I start looking so I can begin making good purchases along the way. Thank you all who answer in advance. I will openly admit Im a NOOB here, this is not my territory. I only know two things for certain, I miss V8 power, and I want this dream to come true, and will do anything to achieve it. Thanks again guys!

Hi Dustin,

I moved your thread to the Charger Discussion board, where it'll (hopefully) generate a bit more response and answers to your question about what to look for in a II Generation Charger project.

Welcome to the site!

Rot under lower part of rear window
Rot under lower part of windshield
Rot behind the hood hinges on inner fenders
Floor pan rot

Rear "frame" unibody rails  from rear axle back
Lower corners or doors

Welcome, I'm sure it's agreed we would love to help you along. So many many people have helped me also on this site. Just ask away in the correct section and I'm sure you'll get helpful replies. Rob.

PS.  You can also use the search box in each section and most likely the question has been asked and the answers are there.  :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Do not buy anything that is already in primer and is described as "Bodywork already done and ready for paint"...
Do not buy anything that is finished...You know you will be cleaning it one day and find a little "bubble" here/there and then they turn into a full blown RE-RESTORE that you weren't prepared for..
Do Not buy anything that was an X Race car..
Do not buy anything that is described as Super Rare and worth a sh*t ton of $$$ cause they saw it on BJ the other night.
Do Not buy anything Without first letting the folks HERE see the pics in detail of EVERYTHING under/in/around/over/ car...
Do not "Settle" for a car when you really want something else..
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Listen to what the guys in this forum are telling you, if someone is selling a car and they are honest they wont mind you asking a million questions and they wont mind you coming to see it a dozen times. Avoid sight unseen, it's a good way to get screwed. Watch out for deallerships, Texas Toy Box for instance, they will make you believe you are buying something off the showroom when it's a rolling rust bucket.  The guys in this forum know their stuff, heed their words.
