How To Search For A Previous Owner.....

I want to search for the previous owners of my car. I do not have a title on it though. I am pretty sure that the car was last titled in California though. I see that there are quite a few companies that would do this for you, but I don't really know how much I trust some of them though. Who has done this with their car and how was your experience.

I just want to find who the car was last titled to. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

I got lucky because my previous owner was in Canada and they offer online vehicle history reports which gave me all Canadian owners.  Tracking through US previous owners are more difficult, but most states' DMV sites have a form that you can send in to request a vehicle history report.  It is a slower system though.  I also know people have used PI's in the locale that the car used to live.
