Is there any place to go or can anyone help me decode a fender tag for a 68 GTX convert that my dad is looking at?  I did a search on here with no luck and also tried the places that came up in the google search but none were really for a 68 or earlier or that helpful.

Barry, I looked over that link and still did not see anything pertaining to the construction of the tires.

Honestly I think you're right about the tires. I believe it was 73 or something like that for steel belted radials. Guess those would be bias plys? Nylon or fiberglass belted, something like that?

Probably just a small error that was repeated over and over. What's funny is it has spread so much. If you Google f70x14 steel belted you will come up with all kinds of hits from other Mopar decoder websites  :P

Yes.. drip rail moldings on a convertible are really cool!

(You forgot to include this is a poorly remade tag......)

It mentions the standard tire for the GTX.

No radials until the 1973 model year though;

Doug, I am glad you are familiar with the ABC tags, they give me a headache.

Wonder if it is a mistake or they consider drip rail moldings the molding around the convertible top?  Curious to see if any other 68 B body converts have that code as well? :popcrn:

Not a mistake and it's not the molding around the top.

They don't. That's why it stands out.

That is only one of five, maybe six, non-typical/not factory made items on the tag. Sorry. They add up to a badly remade tag. It shouldn't quash the deal but pay attention from here on out.

Well, I think I will tell dad to shy away from this.  Too many inconsistant things are being raised based on the conversation from the seller and me.  Here is a link to the ebay ad.   http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11030.m43.l1123/7?euid=c356275c815643c6899d5e4acbff0003&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D280648922975%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AB%3AEF%3AMOTORS%3A1123

and here are the emails back and forth from me and the seller.

Dear nancylhdj,

I see that this car has disc brakes. Are they the original Bendix 4 piston brake calipers or have they been changed over to a single large piston style? Also, has the quarter panels or any other sheet metal been replaced on this car? Do you have the build sheet?

Dear resq302,

I have no idea regarding the brakes, they stop the car.I bought the car from the restorer and got before and after pics. The quarters show the usual rust above the rear wheels in the before pics. They are all sheet metal now this is what I know regarding body work.If a buyer wants to take the rear seat out to see if the build sheet has survived they can do that. I am selling a non numbers matching 1968 GTX driver, I bought it for that purpose and am representing it as just that. The price is fair and I might add way less than I gave for it. I have driven the car 1500-1600- since I got it fresh from restoration.
Thank You, DGM

Dear nancylhdj,

The door panels and upholstery for the seats seem to be in very good condition and had to have been replaced at some point which case the build sheet is probably long gone. Why are you selling the car if it is in such nice shape?

Dear resq302,

They are the original seats as stated in the discription and more comfortable than my dads lexus.
I hve owned a 1968 GTX over 35 years and my priorities have changed. There is a great deal of interest in the car and as usual no one is bidding. I was hoping as all sellers do for a few interested buyers to bid to see who wants it worse. I would not hesitate to drive the car to visit brothers in Texas in the heat ofsummer with no concerns whatsoever. You seem very synical regarding something so benine. I hope you have a great weekend.
Thank You DGM

the latest response....

Dear resq302,

I am sorry for the lackluster responses. I have been answering a multitude of q's over the past 3 listings and you have asked some really good q's that I cannot answer. I have owned "a" 1968 GTX since I was 17. This is my second one. I knew I probably mispelled those words and I appreciate you including the correct spelling in your response. I appologize for seeming to be short with you. I will gladly crawl under the car and try to determine an answer regarding the brakes. My first X I did alot of wrench turning on so I was more familiar with it. This one I bought finished to a point and have made some changes for the better myself. There is certainly more that can be done but in the mean time it can be driven and enjoyed.
I have a boyscout meeting to go to and if you can explain what to look for on the brakes I will dop so as soon as I return. I have been carting my kids all over today and have looked in on my messages when I could. I will responde as soon as I can to any inquiries made.
Have A Great Night, Dennis
