Just wondering if they were any left in your guys neck of the woods. There is one still open about 45 minutes from the house.I havent been to one since I was kid and plan on taking my kids this summer, cant wait.

Got one over in Huntington, Ind. about 35 min. away, they are going to run a second screen, i.e. on the side of a converted barn. Have not been to one in years, to old to climb in the back seat. The house is soooo much nicer..

There's still a decent number of them, about four I think, within a 45 minute or so ride from me. This site will show you where the ones still in operation are.....

Whatever you do, don't go to a similarly named site called "www dot driveintheater dot com" it was flagged by my anti-virus program as unsafe.  :Twocents:

I like going & took my daughter once who also loved it. I'll probably make time to do a couple of more trips when it gets nice out.

There's a drive-in theatre in Grand Bend, Ontario, a half hour ride from Sarnia. We try to go three or four times a year. They play mostly first-run movies, not the rejects from the B movie list like the days of yore drive-ins. :)

There is a whole different experience at a drive-in! Cheap too!

We had 4-5 of them years ago In Rochester, but are now all gone. The last one around here in Florida became a HOME DEPOT about 12 years ago... Wanted to take my kids to "THE LAST PICTURE SHOW", (both the name of the movie and the fact), but one of them was really sick and we couldn't go. :(

Right off highway 50.  :yesnod:  funny story, the guys got cheap and wanted to spend more on snacks, so before we pulled into the place,  chuck and and his buddy popped the trunck & hopped in! I was more than happy to close the trunk!  :smilielol:  just kiddin. Mrs.skip68 ;)

Jeff, Is the one outside of Auburn still open?  I think it may be, but not sure.

There's still one in operation in Milford, NH, about 15 minutes from me. I've never actually been myself, though.

Is that the one you told me about? The one you watch from the roof of your house with binoculars to save a few dollars?

Almost identical situation here but the first is roughly 15mi and the second is about 30mi (right down the street from where I work.)

I have only ever been to the closer one. Hope to go with the kids again someday. Up until now they would fall asleep during the 1st show since in the summer when it is open it doesn't even get dark until like 9pm.

We have one close to me in Warwick, NY.  Not that far of a drive from my house, maybe 20 mins or so.  Driven past it a couple times, just never had the time at night to go with the family.

I've driven past the one in Warwick before, that's close to 1 hour from me. Maybe we can plan a trip/cruise with a few others there when it's nice out this summer.  :shruggy:

sounds like a plan Bob.

Oh, dad was talking to me about possibly doing a combined dodgecharger.com and cuda-challenger.com bbq at their new house in Andover, NJ this year since he has a lot of front yard and can park the cars on there instead of just off the road like my house.

There are 2 of them within 20 miles of my place, One shows basically 2nd run and older movies, the other one you wouldn't want to take the kids along.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

BrianShaughnessy

Last I remember there's at least 3 within an hour.

One of them has had a classic car cruise thing in August that I went to a couple years...   so I drove up with the Charger for the Dukes one year and Talladega Nights another.    And it was OK - they roped off an area for the cool cars to hang out in.  They had a classic radio station giving out freebies and stuff....

But once the movie started they took down the rope and all the mini vans and idiots showed up and parked wherever there was an open spot...   one pair of kids decided my bumper was a good headrest  :brickwall:  The second year wasn't any better even tho I expressed my concerns the first time.... haven't been back.

Used to have a great time at the Van Dyke and Gratiot drive-ins back around Detroit way back when but that was when we'd have a cooler and get all stupid watching Cheech and Chong movies  :smilielol:

Skyview In Lancaster ,OH is a regular for us. First run movies, resonably priced good food. They make the SUV,Vans and pick ups park in the back so you can see the screen from a Charger. South High Drive In still open  ,two screens. Dust bowl when its dry.

The outside of Auburn, IN on 8 is still open.  At least they were still showing double features last fall.

Thanks for the very cool link. I knew there were still 3 within 100 miles and one 10 miles away. It turns out there are 5 within 75 miles! We had on this years agenda to attend at least one showing in the 61 Chrysler. I figure we can fit at least 5 adults or 10 kids in the trunk.

Cool, you have a drive-in in NJ again.

I remember not long ago reading that NJ had no more of them. There used to be 2 or 3 in the Bergen County area where I lived, but those are all gone. The one in Paramus is now part of the Garden State Plaza parking lot, the one in Little Ferry is now condos I think.

There used to be an active one in Newburgh, NY that is actually still physically here. I moved here in 1989 & it was already closed, but then in the early to mid 90's someone restored the projection booth / snack bar building with plans to reopen. The screen is there, but mostly just the frame & a few white panels. The person who was going to reopen was trying to get a zoning variance to have flea markets on weekends, but the surrounding neighborhoods freaked out saying it was not in the areas best interest. The guy also died during this process & his family had no interest in going on with it.

I'm sure a vacant drive in since the 1980's with a now collapsed building, is a much better improvement.  ::)

The last time I went to a drive-in movie was in the early 90s and now that one is shut down. In fact, the company I work for took the property over after the place closed. There were three other drive-ins within 10 miles but now they're all gone too. The only one left that's within decent driving distance is the 99 W Drive-In in Newberg about 40 miles away. I think the only reason it survives is because it shares property with a regular movie theater and there isn't much competition with the big-n-fancy first run 3D extravaganza theaters in that city.

I see this sad sign probably three days a week:

doctor4766

Ahh yes, the drivein movies.
Where as hormonally challenged youngsters we would spend many a Friday or Saturday night with our girlfriends.
There used to be sh1tloads of driveins here in my part of the world, but sadly they died a slow death on the back on VCRs and Video Ezy stores much to my dismay.
The only two left I'm aware of here are either 1hr north or 3hrs south of me.
Looks like I won't be attending one again in a hurry.
So sad  :'(
Gotta love a '69

We just went to one South of Dalas last week. If there's a drive in within 100 miles we'll go to it when on vacation.

And of course we always go to the one by Carlise when we come down for the show
