Herllo,

I need some help cause these assclown power s teer people dont know WHAT the hell they are on about.

I should have had my car back 6 weeks ago and I am STILL waiting.

Every day I ring "wrong part arrived, part did arrive but it had the wrong fitting, part isnt strong enough, etc etc" GOD DAMN THAT PART IS ON ITS WAY TO THE MOON NEXT.

Well my issue is this...

My power steer box for my 383ci 68 Charger. The complete box has had a rebuild and so has the powersteer pump. All new bushes and everything made for it to handle 3 times more pressure than the original. However when the car goes to get driven it still makes this "grinding" noise which is the power steer problem. It just gets this GRRRRRRRRRRR sound.

Any Ideas what would be causing this? Reason I ask, when the oil was low, it made that noise, So i topped it up with oil, sound went away, oil went low sound came back, topped it up, sound went away. So I had to get the rebuild done because the oil kept leaking out. Now it makes it without a leak. The guy said the hose is too small. So he put a bigger hose on and that didnt work, now hes ordere some shit hose from some new charger to put on and see if that fixes it.

ANY HELP??????

Ths is really ticking me off

silly question  , but i'm thinking you bled the the air out of  the  system  !!! when the noise starts is the steering affected ?? !!  does it  go notchy  or stiff ??   :popcrn:

It kinda starts to vibrate... u feel the road more. Btw, what size hose is the correct size hose and what size fitting is the correct size fitting that goes from hose into the oart where it gets screwed onto, the metal bit thats like a U shape sort of.

Mine does that occasionally also but if I shut it off then start it back up, it usually goes away. The hose vibrates and growls. I always assumed it was air in the system.  :shruggy:

Im waiting for a new charger hose to get here (meaning a 2000+ model) car simply cause theres AIR?

Could it possibly be anything else? Like A-Z what sort of stuff in general would make the GRRRRR sound... Low Oil = one.

What else?

After changing the pump, box, or hoses, we always run the steering several times full left to full right before we even start the engine just to be sure there is enough fluid in the pump and steering box.  It takes a few times to get enough fluid into it and we usually jack up the front to make it easy.  Never had a problem doing that.

Thanks for the help guys. I mentioned what you said and he sounded a little cut by the response as it was something like "hah, what? I been doing this for over 30 years" meaning he did do all that as in 'what you think i am, stupid?'.

Well he said when he tested it, the steering feels great. When the vibration starts the steering isnt tight or loose, u just feel the vibration through the steering wheel. He mentioned a word which I dont remember but it is to do with powersteer, and it starts with HIS.... olike histe....something i dont remember."

But it only happens when the steering and oil etc heats up that it starts to go GRRRRRR like a grinder.
