Drache's '67 Dart GT thread

Drache

As some of you might remember I posted pictures of a '67 Dart GT that a friend bought. Well the history of the car is quite "interesting".

The original owner bought the car new and drove it for a number of years until his wife wanted a divorce so he sold the car.

The second owner decided to restore the car. He stripped it and did the frame and the sheetmetal, replacing the rear quarters, trunk skin, etc. Bought new carpet, new seat covers, headliner, dash pad, etc. Then his wife wanted a divorce so he reassembled the car to sell it. Thus why the body is very nice but none of the chrome was redone.

Then my friend bought it because he always wanted an old mopar. Well just yesterday his wife admits to him she was cheating on him with some guy and wants a divorce. (she was always a bitch anyways so I personally say good riddence).

So now my friend needs to hire a lawyer for custody of his son. Even though I don't think it's worth it I offered to loan him $8000 (the money I set aside for a car) to help him along. He told me he would just sell me the dart for that and call it even. So with reluctence I agreed and now own a '67 Dart GT.

Since Im not married maybe I'll break the curse of the car.  :icon_smile_big:

so, if you are married to yourself and cheat on yourself and divorce yourself, do you get to keep the car by selling to yourself? why break tradition.

I've heard of the divorce diet but this is the first I've heard of divorce cars.  At least it's the first time I've heard of them referred to this way, now that I have, I can cite a lot of examples of divorce cars, divorce guitars, divorce boats etc.

Sadly the car needs more work than it should I think for the price.

The paint is good but all the chrome needs to be redone. New carpet, new seat covers, new headliner, new dashpad, new quarters, new trunk, etc. The rear piece of chrome between the tail lights has some dents. The back bumper has a small dent in the corner. The chrome piece on the console is pitted. The dash needs the letters to be repainted.

engine is a 318 but I think it's a little more than stock :D

The transmission is just a 904 although I was told it has a shift kit or something on it. When it shifts from first to second or from second to third the car just wants to move faster.

Cragar wheels.

Not sure what else to mention.

I'll get some more pictures up once it stops snowing  :brickwall:

I did have the car up to 95 mph so it certainly has some speed to it  :rotz:

Oh and before anyone asks, I have the original antenna as well but it's in the truck. The original radio is missing and replaced with a newer stereo (CD/MP3). I'm thinking of leaving the antenna off though and plugging up the hole. Im thinking of a rubber grommet/plug so if I ever want to replace the antenna it would be easy as popping out the plug.

So you've outlived two life sentences? I do not think the term means what you think it means.

Just twice divorced?  Well I'll give ya one in that you were smart enough to never do it again... I had to try three to be sure and I came to the conclusion that I have more money in the bank when I'm single than I do when I'm married. I think if I ever get the urge to get married again I'll just hand her a bank account and be done with it.

Wouldn't that be like buying a car you already sold once?

Just my damn luck.....

So I took the car into my cousin's shop today and asked them what I need to fix the brakes on the dart. Just got a call back stating it will be just shy of $800 worth of parts (that is with my employee/family discount) and labour on top of that which they are still trying to figure out. I'm supposed to be picking up the quote the day after tomorrow (I work all day tomorrow) to see exactly what is listed.

Now you're learning what its like to be married!        They never tell you up front about the long term costs...

Well after the cousin got back from Vacation visiting Michael Waltrip he went and looked into parts and after some carful shopping and only fixing the things that really need to be done right now, it's dropped the price down to $600 with the labour included. Should be back on the road by Friday.
