Hello- i found this site while looking for a 69 Charger.  I have found a car i like, but not sure if the price is high or low.  I am new to the Mopar scene.  Here are a few of the specs...

non-matching # car w/ fender tag
car is currently being built.  all new parts

Fresh built 440, fresh 727 trans
b and m floor shifter
new interior.seat covers, headrest, carpet,
chrome interior pieces
new chrome bumpers
all rust removed, frame powder coted, new qurter panels, new paint...hemi orange
new disc brakes in front, new drums in back
air shocks in rear, new shocks in front
new torque thrust wheels and new tires
new exhaust system
4:84 lift purple cam
headers
750 choke carb
3 core radiator
new alternator and starter
that is the main stuff.  The truth is, I dont even know whether the cams are good ones and what a 3 core radiator is.  Like i said, I just know that i love he look of the charger.

Any help please on what price should be?  Then i'll say what i am paying if i buy it!!

Thank you!!

Welcome to the site.

What is the car originally? A small block will bring less than an original R/T even if the car has a 440 engine now. Overall, it sounds like a nice car but, we like pics around here.  :icon_smile_big:

The 484 cam is a Mopar piece and overall not a bad cam, there are just better ones out there now. A three core radiator(probably a 26" unit) provides more cooling efficiency.

thanks-  the car was a 383.  no pics yet, it is in the build process.  I just have to decide if he is buiding for me or not!  what cam is recommended?

I like Engle cams myself but, there are other good ones out there. Try and stick with one that utilizes the Mopar big bore lifter design. To make a educated choice on the cam you will need to know what the compression ratio of the 440 is, the rear gear ratio, the intake manifold being used, torque converter stall speed, and what you want to use the car for.

FWIW, if the engine is ready to go the 484 cam is not a deal breaker by any means IMO.

yes, it is!  how do you know?  the guy i have been talking too has been very helpful and patient with my questions.  But between my wife bothering me about it, and the amount of the purchase, and nervous to mail money to a stranger without knowing every details...- I need to understand more of what i am buying.  I basically know nothing about cars other than looks!  I know I want a muscle car, charger is my favorite.  And fast and loud is nice too!

So this car is in the process of being reassembled?

Oh & welcome to the site.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

cleanimages, the guys around here can smell a Charger in a garage from 100 yards away!

I think it will be started in the next week or two.  Any feedback on Fayetteville, Tenn?  Has anyone here worked with him before?  I'm sure he is a member of this site, he has quite the collection of Chargers. Any info appreciated!

Charger_Fan

He doesn't sound familiar to me as of yet. Hopefully Afflyer chimes in again before too long.

i have to jump in here about the shocks you mentioned, if he is going to all of this trouble to but this thing to gether it seems to me that a new set of springs would be in order, and maybe some KYB shock instead of these highschool kid airshocks.

Hard to say what it's worth without pictures.  Assuming it's been done right, I would venture to guess that car would sell for somewhere between 17-23K, imo.  If it was a true 440 4spd R/T, you could expect that price to double.  Pricing will be affected by more variables than I can even list, but the more options it had from the factory, and the bigger the original engine was, the higher the price will be, usually.  usually...

I'm assuming you can't travel there to see the car in person, so if you can't get someone in the neighborhood to inspect it for you, ask the seller to send as many pictures as possible.  Make sure you get a look at all key parts of the car, from as many angles as possible.  For a car that has been through what sounds like an extensive disassembly/reassembly, you'll want to check the fit and alignment of everything, so you don't end up redoing details to your own liking later.  Things like doors, hood, deck lid, and the chrome trim can make a nice shiny Charger still look shoddy, if the gaps are wrong.  Try to get pictures that will reveal body waves and/or orangepeel, so you have a pretty good idea of what you will see on delivery day.  Good close-ups of the grille are a must.  Also, considering the amount of work done to the car, I'd ask for some in-progress pics if possible, to make sure things were done right.  There's no telling what exactly is lurking below fresh paint.  Before and after shots of the floor pans and trunk floor, and any patchwork done to the body panels are good to have upfront.  If you can post some detail shots here, some of the experts might be able to spot potential red flags that we mere mortals would never notice.

Danny in TN is a relatively well known Charger rebuilder around here, he has sold Chargers to several members on the board, including me.  I bought a 68 (#'s 383 auto) from him a few years ago.  Considering how little I knew about Chargers (and old cars in general) at that time, I can't complain about the deal I got, but there were some issues with the car that were a bit...understated at the time of the sale.   He's definitely a nice guy, and if you're comfortable with the car and the price, I would say you can probably send him the money without fear.  He has proven himself to be an honest internet businessman several times over.  Having said that, Danny is a car salesman and is not immune to overhyping his cars.  Good luck with it!
