Skip Macdonald - Little Axe is his band though he's well known in england playing with Tackhead the last 30 years...

They were also the musicians playing behind DJ Grandmaster Flash's 1982 hit "The Message" (the vocal was by Melle Mel) and another hit "White Lines".
Despite not recording any new material as Tackhead since (1990), group members continued to record as the backing band or along with various (30?-40?) Sherwood-led On-U Sound productions artists such as Gary Clail's solo efforts, African Head Charge, Dub Syndicate, New Age Steppers and others. Subsets of the group have also appeared in various guises such as the Strange Parcels, Barmy Army and the blues-oriented Little Axe.
In addition to continuing to collaborate with Sherwood and the On-U Sound record label, each of the other members continues to lead active solo careers. McDonald leads the Little Axe project, and Leblanc runs a record label and plays with two jazz outfits, Noah Ground and Nikki Yeoh's Infinitum. As well as remaining much in demand as a session bass player, Wimbish later became the bass player for Living Colour and has recorded solo material as well as forming the short-lived Jungle Funk (later Head>>Fake), a live drum and bass outfit also featuring Living Colour drummer Will Calhoun. RL Burnside is really good.  

I know what you're saying Dave, that's one of the reasons I never really cared for Gary Moore's style of blues. Gary was great, but his blues sound had a "polished" or an over engineered sound that wasn't gritty.

my Fav. Hendrix clip is the one where they just handed him a strange 12 string and asked him to play something,.. so after a false start he quickly revamps the entire arrangement and lays out this stirring and heart felt blues...

One rarely mentioned - Terry Kath of Chicago. Listen to Chicago's first 6 or 7 albums and see how musical and able to change styles the guy was. Jimi Hendrix saw him in his early days, copied a few things and commented "that dude plays better than I do".

Wow - I totally forgot about Terry - The man was a gangster on the guitar. CTA and the live album are my faves followed by the second album.
