That's a odd area to repair. Why didn't you just switch doors ?

72Charger-SE

The original doors are trashed on the outside and rusted thru on the bottom lip with holes in the bottom 6" of the doors.  Yes, it was a very time consuming repair and I would agree an 'odd' location to fix.  It took me all of six hours for the entire process and the doors are good as new.  The best part is there is NO MORE RUST REPAIR left to do on the car!! WOoo HOOooo!    :2thumbs:

I've never seen a door rot on top like that before. The car is coming along real nice.  :2thumbs:

It wasn't door rot or rust.  It appears that a previous owner caught the inside door on something and ripped a hole in it.  He then tried to stick weld it and burnt holes through the panel.  His final fix was to use carriage bolts and small pieces of tin to hold it together.  Either way it is all fixed now... He probably used what he had to the best of his ability....

So, in looking over the Charger tonight I was searching for any rusted ares that I may have missed.  Unfortunately or fortunately I found one.  The driver's side door jamb front pillar area.

It wasn't a tough repair and only took me about 30 mins from start to finish.  I need to do a bit more grinding down a couple higher welds in the trunk area but I am almost ready to spray on the undercoat/bed liner.  We will see if I can get that done yet this month?

Added a washer to the base of the 'flap door' so it would open and close easier.

Straightened the fins on the condensor (somewhat)...  could be better but I was in a bit of a hurry to get that part done.

End result...

New paint job...   well, at least the $ i was going to spend on the new paint job went to this....   Furnace died on Monday...   :'( Spent ALOT of $ on Tuesday for new furnace...  No paint job for me this year... ;(

On one hand very disappointed... on the other... my family is WARM and safe...

After sanding the 'black shell' to permit it to adhere, this morning I shot the underside with the SEM 40660 bedliner from Summit.

More...  Three coats total...

I ordered the 'tintable' type with the intention of painting over it.  I sprayed the entire floor & trunk area as well as the firewall in an effort to minimize 'reverberation' and the 'hollow' sound that is very common in these older cars.  We will see how it works...

More photos after a couple hours of drying time...

Sadly I 'slid' the air hose over the transmission tunnel then shooting the firewall...   :brickwall:  Couldn't really fix it since I was out of product...  :brickwall:

Looks good!  Is the body going to be black?  Was the engine bay/undercarriage the tinted liner?

Body will be 2009 Dodge burnt orange.  The engine compartment will be black to match the accent body line black stripe...  The engine side firewall and the undercarriage were the tinted black...  I decided on Ford black as it has a nice gloss to it...
