RB (Rust Bullet) Ready...

Spent the rest of the day sanding, wire brushing & grinding on the car in prep for Rust Bullet application...    Maybe tomorrow night...  We will see...

72Charger-SE

So, after returning from the airport and a two hour trek around the Mall of America I asked my neighbor Dave to teach me how to 'shoot' the car with the Rust Bullet...    PRAISE THE LORD!!!   Coat 1 and Coat 2 are complete as of 10:30A this morning.   I need to wait about 4 hours for drying time and then apply the first of two coats of Black Shell...

Here are some before and after pics...

This stuff is almost intoxicating.... the respirator, face mask, rubber gloves, and paint suit were a definite MUST once I was 'taught' how to apply it properly by Dave (Neighbor)...

Baldwinvette77

looks nice, is that the final finish, or will you paint overtop of it?  :popcrn:

72Charger-SE

Baldwinvette77 - This is the second 'grey/silver' coat.  (Two required...  may do three)... Not sure..  Then I will put Black Shell on the undercarriage, front (inner fenders, radiator support & firewall), and inside the trunk...   I will do two coats of the black shell and then it is considered 'primed'.  I am probably going to do 'undercoating on the undercarriage to help deaden sound.  Not sure on that just yet...

Chad,
Can you post up some close up pics of your torque boxes?

Brian, there are some 'close up' photos on page 15 of this thread...  Would you like to see anything specifically?

16 gauge is what I used... I had to heat the metal up with a small bottle torch I have to 'bend it'...

After a couple hours of researching last night I determined it was time to apply 'Metal Blast' from the Rust Bullet Undercarriage Kit.  I will wait several hours before doing any more work on the car.

:brickwall:I did notice that I forgot to finish patching and rebuilding the front driver's side rocker panel end cap.

I will have to tackle that before applying Rust Bullet.

GOAL: Three coats of Rust Bullet and two coats of Black Shell applied before returning to work on January 2nd.

December 28th - Family Christmas 2 Hours away (should be home by 6PM).  Welding front rocker panel cap tonight!
December 29th - Church Responsibilities (The LORD's Day)...
December 30th - Prep the Garage (plastic hung and area cleaned up first thing in the morning.
Rust Bullet Day... 3 Coats...  with 3 Hours of waiting between each coat...
December 31st - Minneapolis to pickup someone at the Airport AND they want to go see the Mall of America...  (Day Gone)...
January 1st - Black Shell Day...
January 2nd - Back to Work...

It is a tight schedule but I am confident (unless the LORD decides otherwise) that I can accomplish my goal!

We will see what happens...

YAY!!   Goal accomplished!!  Praise the LORD!!

72Charger-SE

1st coat of Black Shell is now applied...

I am SOO HAPPY the LORD allowed me to accomplish the goal I set for myself back on December 28th...  Praise the LORD!!

It's looking good!  What kind of frame connectors did you use?  Are you worried about losing any ground clearance?  I know mine already sits low under there.

Chrg72 - I made a custom sub frame connector welding 2" square tubing from the front to the back.  I won't know till I get the suspension mounted and such.  I do know the sub frame connectors are closer to the car than the bottom of the rear end housing so I 'think' I will be OK.

Awesome. Aren't you also putting on a rear quarter panel ?

Yep...  Since I had it off to replace it I was able to fully protect the inner and outer wheel well as well as the trunk and back seat area.  The new Quarter panel is in the box along the west wall of the garage.

I purchased a kit from WhiteGauges.Net $24.00 or so.   I wanted to brighten up the cluster (Speedo, Clock, Temp, etc)...  Here are some photos before, during and after...    What do you think?  I am considering painting the brown wood grain look all black...  opinions?

Thanks & GOD Bless!

You will see my son, Nathan, in the photos.  He LOVES doing the detailed work!  What a great help he was with this part of the project!

Final product...  I really like how it turned out!  Great Job Nate!

Give him a pat on the back   Looks good.

Personally, I find white face gauges a little hard to read, but that might have been just the light that was used on the car I was driving.
