1970 charger headlight doors go up but won't go down

Hey guys.  I am trying to figure out why my headlight doors will go up but won't go down on my 1970 charger.  I have to unplug the wire at the headlight motor and manually bring them down with the knob on the bottom of the motor.  As soon as I plug the wire back in the doors go up.  The doors go up whether the headlight switch is on or not.  The headlight switch does turn the headlights and off.  Is it the motor itself or the headlight switch?  Anyone else had this problem?  Thanks!

sounds like a stuck headlight relay under the dash

BananaDan

Yep, had the same issue.  You might also hear some clicking behind the dash.  Replace the relay and you'll be rockin'.

Thanks guys.  Can the relay be fixed or do I have to order a new one?

A383Wing

doubt it can be fixed...if you do, then it may stick again and drain yer battery, burn up yer headlight motor, or cause a fire. New ones ain't cheap, but I think there is a thread on here on how to hook up one of the newer Bosch 5 pin relays to your car

BananaDan

Yep, that's what I did, the new bosch upgrade.  Works like a charm.
