Probably one of the worst natural disasters I have ever seen. Lets all hope they can keep that nuclear power plant under control somehow. If that sucker goes we could be seeing fallout effects over here.

TruckDriver

Yes, I agree. I got CNN on right now, and they say they think maybe 2 of them had some kind of meltdown already. Some people are showing signs of radiation traces as much as being equal to 300+ x-rays to the stomach! And there telling people it's nothing to worry about :rotz:   They also said the quake moved the whole island of Japan 8 feet to the east :o :o :o

On a positive note, they said Toyota completely shut down there plants :D

I suspect the news comming about the "meltdown/s" (a term with quite a bit of wiggleroom apparently,..) is lagging conciderably behind the official reports and I suspect it's lag time is increasing...
Also, if the Island actually moved 8 feet as they report, perhaps the elevation of parts of the island has changed as well,.. man I hope that movie 2012 wasn't just getting us, Joe Public, ready for the actual event, there have been some pretty large solar events recently..

  :shruggy:

"A nuclear meltdown is an informal term for a severe nuclear reactor accident that results in core damage from overheating. The term is not officially defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency[1] or by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.[2]
A meltdown occurs when a severe failure of a nuclear power plant system prevents proper cooling of the reactor core, to the extent that the nuclear fuel assemblies overheat and melt. A meltdown is considered very serious because of the potential that radioactive materials could be released into the environment. A core meltdown will also render the reactor unstable until it is repaired."

I see now Japan has a volcano that's erupted, and over night the death toll went from 1,000 to 10,000.
I think everyone realized looking at the footage there had to be more than a thousand deaths... BTW, looking at the footage, for some reason, Russia Today shown as "RT" in the you tube videos and google news videos has the best footage to be seen...  :shruggy: Some horrific stuff for sure...  :-\

mikesbbody

I saw earlier footage where the Big container ships were tied up and just bobbing up and down like "no big deal"...Then you see some of those Big F.....s inland, on there side etc! Wow! the force of that Tsunami to do that! btw, didn't a American Get swept away trying to film the Tsunami (in CA)?

I just read that.
I can't believe the death toll rose by 9000 overnight and it's not over by any means.

yeah,..
"About 20 miles south, (of Crecent City Calif.) the family of a 25-year-old Oregon man combed the beach looking for signs of him. Authorities say Dustin Weber was swept away as he and two friends photographed the waves.

"He just didn't respect the ocean and didn't understand the tsunami," his father, Jon Weber, said. "The (first surge) hit about 7:30. It was the second wave that hit at 9:30 that got him."
"I think he expected the wave to come out of the ocean, but it didn't. It came down the shore," he said."

from: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=134485670

We had a bunch of surfers out trying to catch the big waves when word of the tsunami came through here...
I guess there's always gonna be a few of those stupid ya who's out there,.. and some of the ridiculous comments attached to these stories I happened to read, are nothing short of disgusting...  :slap:
I'm reading a lot this day and now they've changed the wording now from "two" to "multiple reactors"... That can't be good.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/8379720/Japan-earthquake-Engineers-struggle-to-cool-down-six-nuclear-reactors.html
Now they're estimating 20,000 dead, one town alone is missing 9,000.  :rotz:

here's a good view of a single large wave that washed out the spectators at last Yr's Mavericks Surf Competition,
There, folks only suffered a few broken ankles, wet camara gear and beer coolers that floated out to sea,.. But it was all avoidable since the surfers couldn't even be seen from the beach, they were too far off shore... these folks were all neophyte hipsters, without so much as a clue. Some radio station had set up a stage down on the tide line and the rest of the lemmings just gathered around... I can hear the Convo. now,.. Dude, This site is awesome!! We should we set up here.. Sure... OK.. Wait, Dude?..  Is the tide in or out?..

Anyway,.. The Japanese are amazing in the amount of cooperation they exhibit in this emergency, they stayed at their posts mostly trying to limit the damage to their employer's shops... No looting, calm yet shaken, I doubt we Americans would be so organised or prepared,.. unless it comes to shooting looters or zombies.  :D

I wonder where the USS George Washington was when the earth quake and tsunami hit?

Sad thing is, it's just going to get worse. Now there's 1,000's of bodies washing up on shore.

One thing you can say about the Japanese, they know how to build quake proof skyscrapers and large buildings.

Old Moparz

The footage is unreal & really sad to see. What makes it worse, is the nuclear plant damage. I'm not saying this to make any kind of political statement, but I've been against the use of nuclear power ever since I was old enough to know what it was. This goes back to the mid 70's for me, & my argument has always been that some type of disaster, no matter how safe you think you can make the plant, outweighs the permanent damage left behind when a disaster like Japan's happens. And obviously it CAN happen.

Anyone who is pro nuclear energy doesn't have much of an argument anymore.  ::)

I agree on the Nuke power, and hopefully this will be an eye opener for those supporting this plant being built that this Gibson is pushing for a few towns over from me on the Hudson.

the entire US Navy group had to reposition to avoid the fallout from the plant's blast...  :eek2:
