I would NOT want this guy showing up at my house.  ::)

Can you give him directions to another house on the other side of town? Like maybe someone you don't like?

there has to be another car around thats the same as this one. this is to much even for a charger.i feel sorry for you having to put up with a guy like this. tell him to drop the car off at your house, sign and leave the papers in the glove box, and when you take care of all the stuff you have to do for the next two weeks, you'll pay him if you find the time. oh, wait, you have to pull that tranny, remember?

I have to agree, my instinct is telling me to walk away. But I want the thing bad and my impulse is telling me to give it one more chance. Like a bad ex girlfriend. I might need therapy after this.
As with this deal it is essential to remember that they are an EX for a reason. This guy doesn't own the car he is trying to sell you. He is trying to find someone that can find a way around the legal signing of the title. Especially since the car is already there. The owner of the car probably parked behind it cause they know he's up to something. At some point he may even have you come back and with cash in hand...especially if he confirms this you must meet him at a public place do not let him get you to the house. Or bring a ton of friends and a few vehicles. Take your dog out of this fight.

He still probably doesn't have the paperwork in order... I wouldn't bother anymore... Even if you do get the car the possibility of headaches with this guy down the track would be likely.

Thanks for the solid advise. My freinds were saying the same thing " are you crazy, why are you still considering the car".
The problem I had was once he accepted my offer, it was a done deal in my mind. I never second guess once I make an offer. So I had a hard time letting it go.

Monday when he was supposed to bring the car to me, he continued to make excuses and try to get me to pick it up. I finally said I cant buy the car.

That night I seen it was relisted on craigs list for the same price. It drove me nuts and the little crackhead voice in the back of my mind said just give it one more try, grab the trailer and trailer the damn thing back.

So against everyones advice I called and said I will pick it up on this thursday and he agrees.

That night I started going over things again and knew it was stupid something was certainly wrong with this deal.
So I had both his and his parents address, I decided to look up their full names on the county auditor. Then look up any offences on the municipal courts public web site.

What I found made me feel good about walking away from the car.

This kid was only 26 and had over 30 offences against him since 2004.
Some of the ones that stood out were: Theft, recieving stolen property, Menacing, forgery and othe civil cases which did not give detailed info. Due to several traffic offences his licence also came up suspended. The parents also had several cases and some that were still open.

I can only imagine what the true status of that title is and whats going on behind the sale. The vin on the car comes up a 99 but he has it listed as a 2000. I wouldnt be surprised if the title he has is for another car.

I feel bad for anyone else that tries to buy this car. I guess when shopping on craigslist Buyer Beware.

The amazing thing is that he's free! That's the problem with our justice system. They let people like that out over and over again so they can just screw innocent people over and over. Sad. Thankfully he didn't get you. I guess the lesson is, heed the warning signs when they come. You are very lucky.

I think he was just fishing for a deposit from from some poor fool who will never see him or the deposit again.

Did you happen to get the VIN?

If so, a call to the cops might be in order...

Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree as his parents don't sound much better.  :coocoo:

In some ways be thankful he kept stalling you for so long or you could have ended up with a bogus vehicle, even worse if the car was stolen or tampered with you could have suffered in the end.

If he has your address I'd make sure you keep everything locked up tight and I'd advise the neighbors to keep an eye out as you wouldn't want this guy coming to your house and helping himself to your stuff.

Keep looking, you'll probably find a better car for less money without the headaches

NGC414

I did get the vin, I wrote it down off the car when I looked at it. When I checked it out it showed up on the DMV as registered with no problems. But the DMV website only gives the status of the title, no owner info.

I never did give him my address. When I met the kid I knew he seemed a little "off", But he never struck me as a punk or anything like that.

I got lucky for sure, its a blessing he stalled me. I think as said before he is probably fishing for a deposit from someone or selling it without his mothers consent.

People like that are the reason I don't advertise the mopar stuff I've got hanging around that I no longer need.  I guess I'm paranoid, but I don't want low lifes coming out to my house and viewing the car and other stuff that I have.  Bob

:yesnod: Exactly. They could set up a sting buy and put an end to his BS, at least temporarily.
